anything bug related: *CALL KATT FOR INFO OR HELP* (it happens both irl and on here lol)

bugs are the guaranteed way to summon me, much like how touching a thermostat will summon dads.

anyway-- there are actually /a lot/ of different kinds of beetles with different characteristics and body shapes. beetles in the scarabidae (may have misspelt, the only bug familes whose scientific names i can remember are carpenter bees/xylocopa and paper wasps/polistes) are among the most familiar. iirc rhinoceros beetles are in this family (rhino beetles are the ones with horns kinda like what this boi has)

from what i see, this boi's fair, the fuzz on his shoulders is a cute touch because of the underside fuzz that scarab beetles (and some others too i think... there's too much stuff for me to remember) have :P

you prolly oughta make a mini illustration of his back/elytra (wing covers) and maybe his wings (im assuming he has some? if not, disregard)

BUT i remember this:

pretty much all beetles have points and/or spikes/spines on their legs, some more than others and the spikes on the legs varies.

forelegs tend to not have /spikes/ but do have points, the legs of the grapevine beetle i drew show this (hindlegs have spikes and, forelegs just have the points) this is badly worded but i think youll be able to see what im talking about, if not, i could make a little thing to show you :^)

what im getting at with that up there is you could add points and/or spikes to his forearm armor & leg armor (shin armor? lol)

it could be something he could raise up when he wants to and leave flat/hidden at other times, or he could be spiky 24/7 and not be--

also yes he does have wings, and shure i'll try and make a ref of em in a little bit

oh yeah and in regards to buggo boi's back, if he does indeed have beetle styled wings, his scarf could get in the way when he tries to fly. he'd probably have to hold it and keep it from whooshing back and getting caught up in his fluttering/buzzing wings when flying lol (IF he can fly)

that's all i can really think of. only other thing that comes to my mind is his mouth (if he's a robo with one-- some people dont give their robo designs mouths) i cant really tell for sure what kind of mouth he's got, it looks likd he's got one that opens horizontally (judging by the single vertical line in the light colored area on his face) which what id personally go with since it's more in line with a real buggo's mouth, with their mandibles or pincers. there's nothing wrong with a different more human styled mouth though, which style you go with boils down to personal preferences - more realistic styled---

--(horizontal mouth) or human-y styled (vertical mouth).

anyway anyway i love this boi overall, his head/face design is really cute, his laser horn's really cool, i love the forearm/shin armor too, heck i love his build overall. cute robo buggo lol

next time youre on something that you can do some good googling on (tablet i guess?) you might wanna look up "rhinoceros beetle" and maybe just look up "beetle" then peek around the various beetle families, you might see some stuff youll want to incorporate into this boi's design or even another design sometime-

ANYWAY AHEM

i wanted to design him off of a specific beetle but because of my lack of refs i did a sorta generic mish mash of some beetles i saw and gave him a rhinosorus(?) beetle horn cuz i didnt know what else to do
i dont know my beetles well haha

i did notice the leg spikes/points and tried to incorporate them but they're weird/hard for me to draw,, he'd probably be able to retract them/lay them flat especially since he likes to give hugs to some characters lol

i kinda noticed the scarf thing the more i thought about his wings, but i say maybe he could flip it a lil more to the front and wrap it up a lil more, the scarf's a thing im unable to change much cuz of rp reasons > wheeze

i was actually heavily unsure on his mouth,, "metal" characters or robots in general in the sonic series don't have mouthes usually, but at the same time, an exception is #shard/ #shardthemetal who actually [cont.]

is what sorta inspired drift here, since they have a similar concept- a metal sonic who essentially rebelled and became his own person/robot
so since i was torn on what to do for his mouth i just did a line and went with it.. but i love the idea of it opening horizontally in some way :0
he probably wouldn't open it often since he sorta doesn't like freaking people out but he could do so for a startle factor against foes and maybe chomp someone, gonna think on that a lil

most of the time when im drawing its either early morning or late night (both times i have /no access/ to google except for tablet, which i cant use too often) so if my brain's on things other than drawing i kinda forget to look up things relating to art stuff but i'll try > wheeze

as i said before, i'll prob try and doodle his wings or just a bit of a sketchy ref sheet for his design in general and think about more design things for him

also ya dont gotta draw a beetle leg ref or anythin, i think i get it!!

alrighty-

same for me on the drawing thing, i only draw later in the evening or at night (it's bad for your health to do it but i swear 2 to 4 AM is a great time to draw, there are /no interruptions of any kind/ which makes it easier to "get in the zone" lol)

& if you can use your 3ds' internet browser, you can do some researching through it, looking at pics can be a bit bleh though.

hooh boy i wISH REALLY BADLY i could use my internet browser on my 2ds, but just cuz of a singular incident in the past in which i scared myself looking up slendermen stuff cuz of miiverse, its been permanently disabled since on all 3/2ds's i've had rip
plus my parents probably think i'd look up weird stuff in private.. even though i wouldn't and don't even want to

yup lol, originally i planned to still keep him a hedgehog but i just Didnt Like the designs i was coming up with for him fghfhvhjyb. much happier with the bug design :]
