post forces #infinite, anyone? #infinitethejackal #concept? #uhhwhatever

i literally have nothing to say on this
except for the fact i feel like my poses are kinda.. stiff/rigid? i got critique for this specifically that the pose doesnt show any personality, so i wanna fix that but idk how since i cant do major researching into posing (or anything rlly) a lot of the time

OKAY anyway

if you look around in the tutorials subsection or whatever in dA youll find stuff. sometimes advice posts would be in the "what's hot" too, and iirc that's how i found that-one-awesome-guy-whose-name-i-can-never-remember. (i swear i think it was "nsio" but idk for sure. hmm im bout to go google and see if i can find him)

id try to give you advice on poses myself but my skills with them arent as strong as my coloring & shading skills so rip :'D

/basically/, a lot goes into poses, youv got a line (or lines) of motion & more i cant recall off the top of my head. iirc, line of motion is, well... the "line" that the pose follows, like-- fff-- have you watched my playbacks & noticed the lines i put before i start the rough sketch? those are the lines im talking about, theyre for the line/path/motion/ that a pose is gonna follow.

oh god i am explaining this terribly im sorry eli lol i need to go find that dA guy and direct you to his stuff, you can glance at it while youre--

! AYYYY I HAVE BEEN REMEMBERING HIM RIGHT, HIS NAME IS INDEED NSIO!

googling "deviantart nsio explains" will bring his stuff up. it's been like 6 years since i looked at his stuff (jesus has it really been that long already?) but iirc it's /good stuff/ and should be fairly helpful. he's got stuff on human anatomy (and common mistakes made on it), perspective(!), dynamism (that word really messes with me, idk why lol) and other stuff too iirc.

man, i should glance at his stuff again and refresh my memory XD

you could try doing stuff realistically, learn how to do things realistically and then after you get a better grasp on how they work/how to draw them, you can do your usual cartoony stuff. :^)

there's a saying regarding art that ive heard on more than one occasion, it's "you have to know the rules before you can break them" and what that means is you have to know how to draw something realistically before you can properly stylize & exaggerate it.

i mean, you can draw cartoony stuff without knowing how to do realism (almost all of us start out with cartoony stuff, usually modeled after an artstyle we really like-- disney stuff's a good example lol) but youll have a much harder time doing it without the ability/know-how to do realism.

*oh, rip, my radio station had to play def leppard's song animal, gotta stop typing til it's done

dying noises HGNHNVJHbHj*

--ahem--
basically, learning how to do wont bother your cartoony style, if anything it can only help.

idk if youre still checking this (id assume so) but i was kinda "out there" yesterday and autopiloted when i posted those comments above this one, i wanted to come back here and say:

showing personality through poses is a matter of body language. a character who's bold, confident and/or outgoing will have different posture than a meek char who lacks confidence - someone meek will generally make themself look smaller (such as keeping the arms and legs close to body, the less confident the closer theyll be) whereas someone confident will assume "bold" posture, theyll sprawl out more and have more of a presence. theyll look "bigger" than someone meek.
