Manes:

Vennelians usually have 4 mane types, Short, Fluffy, Average, and Thin.

They take great pride in keeping themselves well groomed, but there's always that 1 guy that doesn't seem to care.

Manes have a small bit of meaning depending on where you are and who you talk to, as it used to be tradition that those with the largest manes were always the ones who would get the most respect. Such simple things and beneath them now, and most will just roll their eyes at anyone who still believes such a thing.

In terms of rarity, short manes and actually one of the least common, and are usually something one grows out of after they become an adult.
Some unfortunate Vennelians keep this "child" mane throughout their entire life.

Some attempt to style it, but this is usually seen in the upper class, and most of the time you'll see commoners snickering when said person walks by.

For smugglers, having a large mane can prove useful, as they tend to hide smaller objects in it knowing that it's considered incredibly disrespectful to touch a mane without permission, which in turn allows them to slip things past guards of species who are less aware of this trick.

Other than that, their only other practical use is to keep warm in especially cold times or places.
