Tainted was corrupted by Malice when he was wild and nothing but a dog to Soledormir, during that time of Mal life Sol had to make Mal corrupt Dreamers slowly or he end up killing them or turning them into husks, Tainted was one of the first Nightmare Malice created
She the only ancient to not challenge Malice for the title of Nightmare King, it doesn't mean she doesn't want to be Queen it's just she not stupid enough to challenge him face to face. She has live long enough to see and know just what Malice is capable of and that he is protected by Omen...

Tainted is an extremely elusive Nightmare, she normally sticks to her own territory and when she does venture outside your territory she doesn't make a display of her power like other ancient or alpha Nightmares, she prefers to work from the Shadows and be the dagger in the back.
Under the classifications of The Shadowhunters, Tainted dream is what know as a 'phantom class' her abilities focus solely upon her Shadow Magic and her abilities in manipulating Shadows is greater then even Malice.
She was given her name 'Tainted' because when she enters a shadow taints it and it becomes her's, the Shadows with in her territory act like spiderwebs anything that touches or uses a shadow that is hers is aware of, getting the drop on her isn't easy to do.
This ability of hers makes things difficult for other Nightmares as they use Shadows to travel but there are not the only one who use Shadows... Within deeps part of Tainted territory Void can not travel through Shadows and if he skirts the outer regions of her territory through the Shadows she will know...
Shoji made it that Nightmares instinctively hate Void and Tainted Dream is a Nightmare who actually hunts him...
Her abilities to manipulate shadows make her very stealthy but she is now fool to go after something like Void carelessly
