Gross, that'd be the best way to describe the walk home. Yes that's how Harper felt, gross. The pouring rain had left her drenched, her clothes sopped and weighted with water. The ongoing deluge made the trail exceptionally muddy and her legs and arms were soiled from sliding down the slopes of the mountain. Not mention that it was already getting late and Harper was mentally exhausted from studying all those crumbly old books. It just had to be one of those miserable nasty summer days.
Harper tried to keep her mind off it, especially the books. Figuring out what it all meant was just aggravating, and maybe it meant nothing. What if for the past few months she had been wasting her time in a creepy, dusty, dark, underground box. That time could of been spent elsewhere, instead of isolating herself in meaningless research, she could of used it to actually get to know some people. Harper frowned and casually kicked up some mud, mildly frustrated. She kept her sight ahead in front of her, her heterochromatic eyes giving off a subtle glow.
The Colors! Gallery moderators will look at it as soon as possible.

A dull white stallion waited for her in a small clearing. The equine clearly looked to be frustrated as well, having to wait around all day for Harper in the elements left him probably in an even worse mood. "Sorry, I lost track of time." Harper said apologetically, the horse snorted as if this wasn't the first time she had been out this long. "Yea, I know." She mumbled in reply. After untying him she place her foot one stirrup and swung the other over the seat of the saddle, mounting him. "We'll be home soon Target." Harper smiled and patted him wearily. Target snorted again and shook like a dog. "Oh now you do that, of course, after I've mounted you." Harper grumbled a little annoyed. Grabbing the reigns she directed her horse down the mountain trail in a slow trot. The last thing she wanted was for her and her horse to got tumbling down the wet slopes at top speed. Taking it slow was the smartest option. At least until the rocky road leveled out more evenly.

They continued the rest of the way quietly, with only the beating sound of water for company. Harper's mind wandered back to the books and her eyes soon started stare ahead at nothing, letting her horse take lead on the trail. Spending more time at home probably wouldn't of changed her life much anyway. People would still find her odd, and not many cared for her fascinations well, all except for maybe Wyatt. It was something to do with her father, he always had a distaste for people, and people generally felt the same towards him. It was only natural it seemed that they'd keep the same feelings towards the rest of the family. Maybe it was because they were so far out from the next town, it didn't matter too much though.
Even if she did visit the town more often, she'd still be too quiet and reserved to talk to anyone. Harper took in a deep sigh, she hadn't been wasting her time then, there had to be a point into breaking the code of those books. There could be some sort of lost history or forgotten research in there that'd be revolutionary. Books and any information on the past were so rare. They were too rare in fact, that it was almost suspicious. So Harper concluded to herself that the town was mostly full of idiots, that making anymore friends would just be a waste of valuable time and resources. Still, it hurt to know that she probably never find anyone to share this knowledge with.
Soon the thick trees around her cleared and the path opened to into a large field. Just in time too, the sun had set and it was now nearing the end of twilight. Target came to a halt as Harper dismounted. She led him to his stall and took off all his tack, finally giving him some well deserved rest. Harper then headed towards the house all wet and eager to get changed into something dry, but first she'd have to come up with an explanation for her absence.

re: i was wondering if i could use Harper and Musket in a scene with Atticus? I had a really cool scene in mind and i think it would be fun to write :) It wouldn't be as long as Ember's backstory of course, (or at least i don't think it would be lol) If not, that's alright :)
