also how do i shade trees? i approach shading them the same way i do everything else which is basically "observe/learn how it looks irl, learn its shape/dimensions/structure and how that affects shadows it casts"
for trees it really helps to learn the structure of the trunk & branches and then the way the leaves grow on it. (bit like how learning the skeletal & muscle structure of different animals helps you draw them better)
basically, instead of drawing just the trunk & a circular blob of leaves, look at pics of trees (search up specific species if youre trying to draw a particular sort of tree) and take notes of how trees look - their basic structure. challenge yourself to try something different.
looking up tutorials and advice posts (ones that actually try to explain stuff instead of just going "COPY WHAT I DO!" are what to look for) on other places is good too, getting lots of artists' different perspectives and approaches to drawing stuff is good for--
