I like to do a lot of symbolism or throw in little Easter eggs with my stuff and that including with my characters.
I tend to do some pretty deep meaning behind some of my OC and Mal is one of them. Without getting to involve with my personal life I'll keep it simple

[ A love hate relationship]

Malice was made after Catch (22, March) Mal is (14, April )
Mal was actually inspired by the dark time in my life we're I wasn't allowed to use my imagination, in that time I was very depressed and bitter. That those feeling can rob you of the joy you could have. So Nightmare become the opposite of Dreamer.

I also took inspiration to an earlier time in my life, when I was about 7 to 8 I was told I had poor color choices with my characters ( come on what kid doesn't use vibrant colors?)But I stopped using Colors and only did grayscale until a wonderful woman encouraged me to get into colored pencils at 14. Mal was once a Dreamer prince vibrant in color but was stripped of that as a Nightmare and now a know as the black Nightmare.
Even though Malice is supposed to be the embodiment of negative emotions, there has actually been a hidden meaning to him. Just like the dark time in my life that I was dead inside art-wise, I had a choice to make, do I continue to listen to criticism made by malice intense or do I make something more of it? I will admit for the longest time I let my wounds Fester but as I gotten older I can know look back at though days I wouldn't be who I am today as a person and artist. I grew up with some brutal criticism but I learned there will always be criticism, but not all of it's bad, sometime you have to be push to go in the right direction, it's learning to know the difference between constructive criticism that will help you grow and the criticism that's only meant to drag you down.
The other thing I learned is because of what happened in my life, I enjoy grayscale and find a beautiful in it, because of it I have a better understanding of Shadows and Light that overall has help me with my art. I also have a better understanding of colors now and most of all, everyone has a different Style, some people are just going to like different things.

But I think biggest thing I learned is greater appreciation of imagination and fantasy.

Even though I face some pretty ruff stuff and I still have scars from those times and they're easily to open and hurt again, I have found thought it might be hard but sometime something good can come from it, you just have to learn how to look ;)

Ok well that, that done let's get on to Mal in Skey.

[ the Eclipse ]

A little unknown is, Malice's symbol is Eclipse, the Eclipse is usually viewed as change and often seen as something dark or menacing. Just like a full moon that get Shadow and become an eclipse. Mal was once a Prince of Light who was consumed by Darkness...and like a Eclipse that makes the moon look hollowed out a Nightmare chest is also hollow.

[ Its complicated...]

Malice is probably my most complicated OC on just who he his and yet if you know his mechanics he can be very simple.

Everything about Malice has a purpose and a reason, and I mean everything, from how he thinks, how he acts, to his appearance and his clothes, everything has a reason and with that there just so much info on him and there a lot I'm not going to say right now because of plot stuff. But Mal is one mess up and complicated guy

[ the Illusion of someone more ]

Mal a Nightmare, that alone makes him complicated, Nightmares are not people, there not even like animals really, a Nightmare is an light Eater, one of a few living magic in my world revolving Skey, a Light Eaters that stole a Dreamer body and they themselves are an imposter of that person, they only gain a personality by Eating a Dreamer heart reflection, or something close to that level. Without that a Nightmare would be nothing more than a husk, with a mindset less than an animal.

Mal has gone back to this feral side when he out of his frame as a light Eater, if he hungry enough, he also get similar primitive Savage mindset in his true tormented form, we're all he does is kill anything that has a life aura

Mal personality is a collaboration of different things, been a light Eater Mal main function is his instincts which were made by Shoji his mother and some by Soledormir. Malice is the first light Eater and we're the curse of the Nightmare come from, and as king he has the strongest instincts to follow. 
Other aspects of Mal personality is as a light Eater by eating a Dreamer heart reflection they copy that Dreamers memories and with that part if their personality, it's known now that Mal had Faolan memories and show some of his personality traits but that not the only one Mal has eaten...

Mal got a hold of one of Judas's horns, it nearly killed him as light Eater don't mix will with silverblood, anyway, Vaseterm horns are extremely powerful and are full of moon light Magic, Mal ended up inheriting some things from Judas...

One of those is the /Echoes/ Mal will expecting memories of his former self sometime when he sleeps, Shoji took this and use to for her own purpose, she will sing to make him remember certain things or to put ideas in his head...

Shoji has made Mal do things without him knowing it.

[ Wolf in sheep clothing...]
Mal is one of my hardest and yet easiest characters to roleplay, as his mindset is basically very Instinct driven and can be kinda robotic. If one scenario comes into play his instincts will tell him he should react a certain way.

Nightmare are known to be deceptive and Mal no different, it was seen more in the beginning of Skey but Mal will act out a roll if he see it will benefit him.

Mal can actually be quite Charming and even social when in disguise, he can smile, joke and even make puns if the situation call for it. As Urufu Mal had a reputation of being very strict and Stern with his work, but for a few who got to see him off duty and got to know him more, Mal had a more Charming demeanor, this is how Boreas know Mal.

Mal knew Boreas was a captain and not someone to mess around with, so Mal played a role that would best benefit him in gaining Boreas trust.

[ Playing with hearts]

One of these roles was being flirty, as a Nightmare Mal is all about hunting and what he hunts is people, Mal know he good looking and use that to his advantage, picking out females who will likely fall for his tricks but he only has a tolerance that go so far, as long as he the one in control he fine but as soon as the female start to put the move on Mal, he will ether flee or get hostel.( Mal ripped out Demise tongue when she got to flirty )

[ A haunting memory of Raven hair... ]

Mal dose have a fascination with women who have long black hair, but why is that if Nightmares are not supposed to have feeling for others? Well you can blame Soledormir.... You see Judas had seen a vision we're Malice was happy, but to protect what he seen Judas cut off his fourth horn, Sol no dummy, he knew Judas was up to something, expecially taking such a high-risk like that.

Soledormir been around for a long time and is really good at predicting things, he has one of the most OP things you can give a character and that is /foresight/, not so much that he can see the future he just extremely good at reading situations and guessing the outcome. ( I have 4 OC that do this very well, 3 of them are in Skey, Sol, Void and Faye, the one who not but is on the same level is Von. )
Sol know the oldest book on the shelf, /that love conquers all/ so he guess whatever Judas seen, had to do with a woman, for who Mal /was/, and Sol being Sol, he made it so Malice would be haunted by memories of Alexandria (youger Victoria) it was pretty easy to do as Faolan had a really big crush on the Vaseterm Queen.

In Skey Mal often seen Eira as an illusion of Alexandria, he even called her Eira Alex one time.

Sol plays dirty, expecially with people hearts, he knows how to twist and cause the most pain and chaos with people lives.
Thanks to Omen Sol knew a few of the chosen candidates had long black hair, so what he did with Mal was perfect for his plan, he get to torment Mal and drag down anyone who fall for the Nightmare king, Creating chaos and distrust with the candidates.

One of Sol favorite thing is to mock love...

[ a true evil intent ]

Dreamer are known to practice the unity of marriage and are known to be very loyal to their spouse, If Sol got to do what he wanted a hundred percent with with the Nightmares, he would have made the Nightmares into breeding stock to make an unstoppable Force of hybrids. He had a few intentions for this, one to have an unstoppable army and the other was to slander the Dreamer kinda themselves and them been loyal to one love. Thankfully some deals we're made and the Nightmare are scared or disgusted with the thoughts of anything romantic.

But if Sol did have his way, Mal would have been used his prime breeding stock, Mal was picked to be a male and place in a Male Dreamer Prince so he could be used to cover many females, one of them would have been Lamia as those two would make the most powerful offspring, been the strongest pyro and strongest Frost, Mal offspring would also be special as they came from the Nightmare king, they would share similar abilities as their farther but with each one of Mal children Malice's web to maintain the population and control would grow, so Sol to have an army he need the Nightmare king to have a lot of kids.... At one point though Mal would become obsolete by the new hybrids and Sol Would eventually make one of Mal son's eat their own dad, so they gain his power and become the new king and continue the cycle.

[ The scariest monsters of all....kids ]

Thankfully this didn't happen do to the deal that was made and Shoji odd sense of humor, Nightmare like I said are terrified of having kids.

One of Mal stronger instinct is if a Nightmare did have a offspring he to hunt them down both and kill both parent and child.

Those who read Skey should know one of Mal greatest fear is children, expecially with the talk of him having kids. It's kinda funny he thinks this way because Mal also thinks he can't have children because of the deal but in reality he can have kids the deal is just he can't be forced to have kids. ( Just with his mindset on children it would be a miracle if he ever had a child )

[ a name can say it all]

Mal was named Malice for the definition meaning "the intention or desire to do evil; ill will" Soledormir pick this name because his evil intention against the Dreamer species.
(You all should have a pretty good idea on Nightmare and Light Eater now so I won't be going into a whole lot on that, because I don't feel like doing a bunch of review.) But Sol evil intentions go much farther than just with the Dreamer species, as you just read Mal also to make a mockery out of love, and much more.

Malice is also know as the forsaken Lord of Revenge, Sol name his this for a few reasons, one, Sol Revenge on Dream maker and two his revenge on the Dreamers species and the land of dreams ( they kinda have a history...)
Mal also has a stupidly strong desire to get revenge on those who wronged him or he thinks has.
Depending on what the level of someone wronged him, Mal has different way to go about getting revenge but all of them are really bad.

One of the worse is Mal will hunt down the family members to ( insert name of whoever) and if there lucky he just kill them, if not...Mal called a Nightmare for a reason and he make them suffers before killing them, after that he hunt down the extended family, grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles and kill them, after all that then he kill the person who wronged him. Mal did this to Crimson's family and Kingdom all because of a grudge from Crim ancestor. Mal more recent has made comment about doing this with Eira and killing Catch.

The sad thing is Mal very stubborn and doesn't drop things easy so best to not get on his bad side ( but that hard to do as Mal friend list is very small ':D )

[ Chihuahua syndrome ]

Ever since the beginning of Skey Mal has a thing against people the same heights or tall and thin him.
This is because Mal really knows how tell or uh...small he really is, Malice is a light Eater and his true height is about 6 inches and he absolutely hates it.

Mal doesn't like to look up at anyone, he run off instinct and for a predator most the time if something bigger than you it's going to be a threat.

He also doesn't like when people look him in the eyes, he wants to be the one to initiate it but if someone else does, Mal could take it as a challenge

[DRINK ON THE ROOF!!]

Thanks to Faolan memories, Malice has inherited been an alcoholic...

Mal like his drinks, and tends to drink the most when something major didn't go his way. But thanks to Shoji, she made it so a Nightmare can't get drunk easy.

it takes alot of alcohol to get a Nightmare drunk, and for Mal to get waste he has to have enough alcohol in him that would have sent at least 10 people to the hospital

[ SHE DIEDED!]

When a Nightmare is drunk or under the influence of something that mess with there senses, it affects their predator sense as well.

Nightmares run off there predator sense, it's instinctively like breathing, they can focus on it to amplify it more but overall it's running a good portion of the time just on lower levels.

When a Nightmare under the influence of something, it mess with their predator sense and can even turn it off, without their predator sense there forced to rely upon their other senses.

When Fiona passed out, Mal was so drunk his predator sense wasn't working so he had to go off his other senses and so when she just fell over Mal believe she really did died because he couldn't senses her life aura.

[ Hiding in plain sight]

Malice run off of instinct so much he relies on his predator since a ton. Mal identifies most individual by there life aura, he extremely good at tracking something done if he knew that person aura, but this reliability to this also has a flaw.

If someone hide there aura or change it, Mal will no longer identify that person as who they were originally.

Victoria place seal on herself to hide she is Alexandria, at first Mal knew her as two different people even though they have the same face, it's all because how he relies on his predator sense.

The same thing goes for Crimson, Judas place seals on Crim to hide his identity so Mal wouldn't instinctively try and hunt him down. Mal actually believes the boy was killed and that Crim is just someone else.

Crim also has something that will hide his Aura completely, to hunt Nightmares

It's possible to trick lower Nightmares but one as strong as Mal take magic that isn't easy to do, it's take some knowing what someone doing but it's still possible

Everything about Malice look has a purpose and meaning.

Shoji wanted to name Mal 'Malanin' a spin off of melanin because of how she designed the cursed to effect a Dreamer the corruption would turn the pigment of their blood,hair, and markings black. ( Also given Malice the nickname the black Nightmare)

[ The color of a life for a life ]

Soledormir was very meticulous when it came to what he wanted Shoji to do with the first light Eater, as Malice's is know as the black Nightmare but the color /green /was intentional...

Soledormir was using symbolism and making a statement, he wanted Dream Maker to know when Malice face him, that he took Zitan who was know as a green flames dragon, so he took his son and gave him green flames, so Maker would know the price of a life for a life.

[ The eyes are windows to the soul]

One thing all Nightmares have in common with their eyes, is that they turn solid pitch Black when enraged, this is because a light Eater eyes actually supposed to be solid black... showing them as soulless creatures.

Malice's eyes when he was born were completely black, but after he chew on Judas horn, his eyes turned a bright golden yellow, the same as when a Vaseterm sense strong dark magic, because Mal is a powerful curse.

Mal didn't inherit his fashion sense from Faolan...he got that from Judas...

If you look at Judas's fragment of the broken and Mal clothing, there more in common then with Mal and Faolan clothing.

Malice has inherited some other aspects of the Broken but not a whole lot, Shoji got Mal away from Judas horn before he absorbed and copy a lot but some things can be seen, as Shoji work them to be something useful, Mal has a stubbornness to get a task done no matter what, something Faolan lack but Judas is good for

Malice out of my boys has the strongest wings, he able endure strong winds from storms that Catch and Omen can't. He can also make powerful gusts of wind mix with dark magic, that could rip a person to pieces.

On top of that, Mal wings signifies him as the Nightmare king and with his wings, he uses them as an amplifier to connect and control other Nightmare or things he has corrupted.

The downside to Mal wings is there very painful to make come out of his back, as the Darkness rip though his flesh before becoming solid and after they return, his back has to heal, thankful he a Nightmare and has a pretty fast recovery time.

He usually doesn't keep his wings out for long as it does take more energy to use them.

Mal might have the most powerfulest wings out of my boys but he the slowest flyer, but not by much

[ mother favorite boy~]

Mal is Shoji favorite creation and call him son, and know him better than then he knows himself.

Shoji also can control Nightmares and light Eater using commands and this is in any of their forms

Shoji has wired very Pacific traits into Malice to try and keep him alive and do other things.

She even interested Judas to look after Malice when he was first made and he still does even with Mal been a Nightmare. What better way to ensure the safety of your greatest creations in interesting it with a weapon of mass destruction?

Shoji use Malice echoes to not only remind Mal of his former self but also to keep tabs on him and know what he been up to, when she does this Shoji sometimes give Mal commands to follow or subtly puts ideas in his head that he will subconsciously do.

One of those is Mal has no problem killing other dark creatures even though they all belong to Soledormir, this is because in the end Shoji sided with the king's, and she just disguised that with Mal aggression and territory instincts.

It's one of the reasons why Mal pick to disguised himself as a Shadows hunters, that and Faolan was one of the founders of the group. But the less of Soledormir dark creatures there are the better chance the key Hunters would have ( or at least that how Shoji see it )

Malice on more than one occasion went out of his to save or get the group out of trouble, there been time he question why he did that, it was because Shoji told him to, if the key Hunters die or get held up too long Soledormir would have a greater chance in stopping the candidates, Shoji been using Mal to heard the key Hunters like a sheepdog, pushing them were to go, it's probably not the best method but Shoji not ever subtle anyway.

Other odd thing Malice did is seek out Crystals and took her, as Void himself questioned the Nightmare king motives, Meaning they did not come from Soledormir...they in fact came from Shoji, she was the one who really wanted Crystals...

[ the plot thickens ]

In using Mal I have to be careful sometime as a lot of what he does or who he interacts with I do a lot of foresight with, I'm sure everyone should have noticed by now that Mal flash back do contain interactions with other key Hunters. I was using Mal flash back to get the group use to things that happened in the RP does effect my world and what to come, as I said before I my have the plot but we all together make the story, it's just just giving everyone the freedom on just how the story go's.
When Im foresight I try not to only thing about what going to happen the next session but weeks, months and even years ahead
As it is right now there 16 variations of possible endeds for Skey and this change all the time depending on what happened in the RP as we go.

I have purposely made it so that Mal has a connection to every member of the key Hunters in one way or another, this gives me freedom to use Mal with anyone and it will affect something big that to come..

[it's dangerous to go alone take this ]

In Skey Omen made Eater and Mal swap frames, and transfer some of Malice' power over to Eater frame, he did this for two reasons as one was because of Killy and the other Judas.

Killy knew his father wants Eater as the next king of Nightmares and was just getting him ready
As Judas knew what the group would be facing some tough cookies and Eater needed a power up to be better to help the key Hunters. He also knew by making Eater jump to an Alpha Malice couldn't control him

Eater inherited quite a few things from Mal, he now has can summone a sword, he also has Bart chains, and a few other things.

Judas know quite a bit about Nightmares and know how to transfer power like he did without transferring personality traits, it's why he made sure they both were in frames because /only abilities/ would be absorbed.

(Light Eater are like little sponges soaking up anything they eat, if the thing they eat has certain qualities they will copy it and add it to themselves.)

Mal didn't like Eater to begin with and now that the young Nightmare has some of his power Malice really doesn't like Eater

[ 'Mal'function ]

Mal has been a puppet on a strange ever since his birth, if by Sol, Shoji, Void and even a little bit by Omen, most the time Mal doesn't realize this because it's all instinct. To him his life was simple, just kill things and maintain territory but that all change...

In Skey Omen and Mina went into Temple that had one of the black Crystal that are called Malice's hearts, Mina had broken the previous one and Mal stared to act a little odd, but Omen took this further and had Mina break another one but this time the outcast took a crystal and had it absorb what was inside the black Crystal and the new smaller Crystal turn blue, Omen then later cut this new Crystal in /two/ pieces...

Omen took one piece and stuff it into Malice's chest while he was hibernating recovering from an injury, the method Omen us prevented Mal from discarding what he absorbed, which was part of a Dreamer heart reflection.
When a light Eater eat a Dreamers heart reflection they only copy what they need and discard the rest, but I never said we're they discard them to...

After Mal got a fragment of a heart everything went bonkers for him, he started to experience things him as a Nightmare are not supposed to and it was overwhelming for him, expecially in the beginning, Mal has new emotions and with that he leaning new ideas.

Mal out of my boys is the opposite, as all my other boys are battling their inner demon,( Catch/Catty, Judas/Killy, Crim/???) Mal is the monster who been given a conscience, we're he now can choose between right and wrong.

At first Mal hated this, it confused him and made him feel uncomfortable as his new emotions conflicted with his instincts.

Omen gave Mal a heart for two reasons, one good and one bad...I'll tell you the bad first, Void has the other half of the crystal fragment Omen put in Mal...yep, that not good.

The other is Judas seen in a vision a way to save Malice's life, to protect what he seen he cut off his last horn, and one he had healed enough Shoji ask him what he seen and he told her " Mal was happy" what Judas seen was Malice was with a woman with long black hair and that he loved her.

[ a light in the Darkness ]

Thanks to Sol Mal was already draw to women with long Raven hair,
So when Mal met Alexandrea he was draw to her pretty fast, at first he did the same thing like he did with Eira fantasized Alex as Alexandria from his past life but as he stared to adapt to his new emotions he began to separate his instincts of Alexandria hunting him and develop feeling for Alexandrea.

Malice has done what no Nightmare has ever done before, fall in love
This confused and even terrified Mal at first, he didn't understand it, the joy and the pain that comes with love, but Alex has been helping him understand what he going through. Because of this Mal is one of my boys who has made the most character development since the beginning of Skey,( Crim come a long way to )
Mal went from a cunning monster out to get the key Hunters to now /he/ wanting to helping them stop Soledormir.

[ Oh man...that some break up... ]

Mal having a ship can have it's backlash... Malice is still a Nightmare and he the king of Nightmares who the forsaken of Revenge, Mal would not take a breakup well, unlike Catch or Judas who a break would affect them mentally and physically but probably do nothing to the other person, Mal wouldn't...he would go after that person's immediate family and kill them, then kill their extended family and if he was in a merciful mood he burn down their home City but he probably not be merciful and curse the city with the living dead, so dating a Nightmare king has it risks ':D

But this is why Mal what to do this to Eira to because she the one who made Alex break up with him.

The reason why Mal didn't do this in Skey when Alex broke up with him though, is because Mal got waste. ':D
A Nightmare can't shift to their tormented form if their drunk, the tormented form is all about pain and suffer, alcohol mumbs the senses so pain doesn't hurt as bad.

Now that Mal has a heart he does some really out of character things for a Nightmare king, expecially when drunk x'D

[ because we are Brothers]

Faithful and Faolan are twins, they share similar looks and abilities, as they both use fire and electricity, and they both have Griffin and manticore, even though the boys had things in common there was a lot that made them different from each other.

at one time the boys got along and had a friendly rivalry with each other. But Faye was the older brother and would be king one day, Faolan found himself as the black sheep of the family, he stood out compared to his older brother he wasn't a leader like Faye and he had a hard time coping with not only his own emotion but those around him, and the boys didn't have much time to be kids as they were born in a time of War.

Soledormir wanted to rip the golden star family a part, he keep pressure on the Prince's father, forcing him to stay on the front line and away from his family. Sol then came to lean the twins were we're stronger together then apart so that we're he plotted his Wicked scheme.

With their father away that put a lot on the twins, expecially Faye, as it was his duty to protect the land of Dreams, Faye and Faolan form the first group of Shadows hunters to protect the land of dreams in those she was connected to.

But things keep driving the twins apart, Faolan grew jealous of Faye, the girl he had a crush on pick his brother over himself, Faye was know to save Faolan time and time again, Whispers and rumors spread about Faolan been weak and he believe them and his brother would be king one day and Faolan believe he would always been in his brother shadow and be nothing more, then Serenity died and Faolan just fell apart.

Malice's brother did try and save him, he made the Fairfins to keep the Nightmare curse from over taking his kind but later was killed by Malice, Sol then gave his brother body to Void to use.

[tears for a Rose]

Alexandria wasn't the only one Soledormir used to torment Malice, he used Serenity, Faolan and Faithful little sister.

Faolan was very close to his little sister, he pester her like brothers do but he would always try and be their for her when she needed him.

Faolan was pretty protective of his sister as she could not do the normal things a Dreamer could because she was half human.
It was made clear that Soledormir was hunting down the Golden star family after Faye discovered Soledormir weaknesses, Faye devised a plan to split up and him and Faolan would try to lure anything Sol sent after them and there sister hopefully would have been taking some place safe, but this did not happen.

Serenity was murdered in a ambush and the only survivor was Zitan and there was evidence against him. Faye and his father believed there was more going on as Faolan put the blame on Zitan, because he was ones a forsaken Lord.

Faolan spiral down after Serenity death blaming Zitan and getting mad that others were deafening the dragon, Faolan then did what he did best, trued to the bottle and get drunk.

One of those times Omen was told to seek out the Prince and bring him to Soledormir. Faolan thought he could kill Sol himself but he stood no change, after beating Faolan Sol presented the prince with a proposal, join him and he give Faolan the power to raise the Dead, Faolan accepted the offer and form a deal.

As Malice Soledormir had him keep the memories of Serenity as she was why Faolan offer himself, but a deal with Sol is never for the other person benefits...

Soledormir trick Faolan, he wasn't able to bring his sister back to life, all Malice could do was create zombies and that what he did to Serenity body, even though Mal was a Nightmare he was disgusted with what he has done to Serenity, turning her corpse into the living dead, Mal couldn't stand it and destroyed Serenity corpse. He then laid her to rest and left her dagger, a gift from the twins.
Mal never liked going to the Granditxknox after what he did, but Omen would stop by from time to time to keep Serenity Garden nice and to talk with her ghost.

Now that Malice has a heart memories of Serenity effect him in a deeper away, as Mal has actually shed tears for her, something he never done before

Mal symbol is the wolf or dog, he often referred to as one, in one way or form. Mal originally did have a wolf form but like Catch I scrapped this as it would have likely been to much for a character who already had a bunch going for him.
( I might draw it one day just to do)

I have however put Easter eggs of Mal wolf form, as there is a black wolf that is his servant and spy in his Fortress.

Faolan name means little wolf and Urufu means wolf

Amongst Soledormir army, the Nightmare are known as the bloodhounds as they are extremely good at tracking, and Mal is one of the best.

Even Mal light Eater form get called a Chihuahua

As I take this lore to an end, the eclipse my be known as something dark and Hallow but people often forget to notice a rim of light that still shine, it might be small but it's still there if you know to look.
