This is a painting of a Tardigrade (or Water Bear). They are considered animals. They are .2mm in length. For comparison, the human eye can resolve distanes of up to .1mm. .1mm in roughly how thick a human hair appears when held at an arm's length! The original reference photo actually came from a Electron Microscope (TEM, SEM, or STEM) and uses how many electrons are knocked off a atom to create a image, in which the chemical makeup of it can be found and the respective section can be colored.
The Colors! Gallery moderators will look at it as soon as possible.
