if any wasps are flying around you and youre not near a nest, you generally shouldnt be in danger. wasps (away from nests) dont tend to sting unless you hurt them. theyll just check you out like "hey w.tf are you? what you doin" then either go about their buisness or keep flying around you (but not dont act hostile)
but, then again... that's just my experience with them, i /never/ get stung by anything unless i really hurt it. even supposedly aggressive stuff like yellowjackets never do anything to me lol. they even let me pet them...
though i /never/ go around any nests and try to interact with wasps there cause that's like asking, no, /begging/ for trouble. lol
