Skipper took a good look at the mansion looming above him. He'd been chasing a mouse and had stumbled across this place. //Might as well look for a way in,// he decided. It was beginning to rain and the people that owned this place probably had some nice little trinkets he could sneak home. He trotted closer to the building and snuffled around the door.
Inside the mansion, it was mostly empty. The master of the house and his wife and two children had left for the evening, leaving only the servants, who were busy cleaning the place. The front door was unlocked and nobody was standing in the front hallway. Skipper could slip inside unnoticed.
Skipper nudged the door open with his muzzle and sneaked inside. He looked around. The front room was huge. He started to explore, keeping to the edges of the room, though he didn't really need to since his bright red and yellow outfit could be seen from anywhere.
Even as the door creaked open, nobody came to investigate. It seemed that the servants were all too busy or far away to notice any intruders. However, something strange was going on. From high up in the attic of the house, there came the sound of a recorder being played. It was a rather cheerful little melody.
Skipper's ears twitched at the song. He stopped behind a bin and listened for a moment, then he decided he must go up and investigate. He left the front room and started looking for a way to the next floor, looking around alertly for servants.
The recorder song grew louder the closer Skipper got to the top of the house. Just then, one of the servants appeared around a corner and started walking down the corridor that Skipper was currently in, humming quietly to herself.
Skipper took one look at her and darted for an open door. There was a leather couch inside, and he headed for that first. The servant was just getting close to the door when his long tail disappeared into the small space under the couch.
The servant entered the room moments after Skipper did, gazing around with a bit of suspicion. She could have sworn she'd seen something run in here, but after a while, she decided it must have been a rat or something. Continuing her humming, she left the room and continued on her way.
On the ceiling was a trapdoor. It must lead into the attic, because the recorder music was much louder here, and seemed to be coming from right above the ceiling.
Skipper waited for a few seconds until it was definitely safe to come out of hiding. He squeezed out of the gap and looked up at the ceiling-door. How was he to get up there? He surveyed the room, his eyes resting upon a wooden stool. He dragged it over and hopped onto it. //Maybe if I jump, I can push it open...//
Just as Skipper was doing this, the music from above stopped abruptly. Perhaps whoever was up there had heard him moving around and thought it was one of the servants.
Skipper gazed up at the door, narrowed his eyes, and sprung into the air. He thwacked the door with a grey paw, nudging it a little to the side, before plomping back onto the stool. This was going to take a few tries.
(my character: skipprr your character: house, random people and a cute song)
Before he could try again, the trapdoor suddenly swung open all the way, and a head poked out to look around. It was a boy, with dusty-grey skin and floppy white hair that covered one of his eyes. The one visible eye was amber with black sclera. 'Who's there?' he called out, as if answering a knock knock joke.
'Hey, you messed it up!' the ghost exclaimed. 'You're supposed to keep saying 'banana' and then say 'orange' and then say 'orange you glad I didn't say banana'.' He floated down from the trapdoor and landed in front of Skipper. He looked like he was standing there, but he was actually hovering about an inch off the floor.
"I thought I would say 'knock knock' again every time you'd ask 'orange who'," Skipper gave a small shrug. "Hello. Are you a ghost? If not, you look like one. Should probably see a doctor if you look like a ghost and you're not a ghost."
(o r a n g e y o u g l a d I d i d n ' t s a y b a n a n a)
'Yep, I'm a Poltergeist. The name's Spike.' The boy stuck out a hand to shake, not seeming to care that Skipper didn't really have hands. 'Pretty generic name, I know.'
'Well, you seem pretty cool to me.' Spike gazed down at Skipper, his expression curious. 'So... what brings you to this dusty old house, Mr Skipper-The-Cat-Who's-Not-Normal?
"A small rodent I was chasing," Skipper replied. "And the storm outside... and the possibility that there's something in here I can steal. Though you might be pretty protective of this house, huh?"
'Nah, not at all, but you won't find much to steal in here, laddie.' Spike grinned mischieviously. 'I already took everything interesting when I first got here. Unless it's just money you want - I don't normally steal that.'
(Hello I'm here to roleplay with my own awesome self)
'If you want stuff, you have to get there before I do!' Spike replied. 'Though I think I already raided most of the houses along this street. So...' He gazed around the room, playing absently with his random-stolen-objects necklace. 'What kinds of things do you normally steal?'
Spike considered for a moment, putting a hand on his chin in the 'thinking' pose. 'I think I might know where you can find stuff like that. There's LOTS of old junk up here in the attic. I was just looking at it before you showed up and started making noises. I haven't taken it all yet - you can come look if you want.' Without waiting for an answer, he floated up through the trapdoor and disappeared.
