With bodies i suggest looking at how other people draw bodies to get an idea on anatomy and change parts to fit your style (example: 3 finger hands and slim arms for a more cartoony style, etc) and for shading i suggest when you're shading having an idea to where the light source is coming from (even if there is no actual light it'll make the drawing more realistic) I do this in all my drawings (even doodles that have no visable light source)
