The news that Brutus bore with him to Andromeda? It wasn't just that the camp had been moved from their safe location. It was that the move had taken its toll on Andromeda's elderly mother, Eos.
Brutus and Andromeda rested together in the abandoned camp until morning when the storm has passed, then traveled quickly to the new camp with Brutus in the lead.
Eos, once called the Dawn Angel, now lay thin and weak in a nest in the healer's den. Eos smiled when she saw her daughter enter the den, and Andromeda curled her body around the old snow leopard's form. They conversed the day away, despite Andromeda's pleads for her to save her strength. "I am old anyway. I have lead a good life, and I would not regret a moment of it. I'm ready to leave this life."
Eos' calm acceptance somehow reassured Andromeda, although it felt like a stone was weighing her heart down, sadness and grief making her second guess her every word.
That night, her breathing became uneven, shallow. The healer sent for her kin, who arrived shortly later with sad, solemn eyes. Andromeda's half brother, Caelus. Caelus' son, Corvus. And Andromeda's son, Polaris. Brutus, Polaris' father, arrived moments later to comfort his family while they spent final moments with the miracle of a cat who had given life to so many.
RIP Eos, you truely were a treasure...but it was time. </3
