Light was never present, except in the fragmented memories he had. Memories that were not his. Although the person in them, a round pink fellow with stubby limbs, looked like him, he could tell they were somehow different.

In those memories his eyes were filled with child-like joy as he played all day in the sun.
He floated up into the clouds, the moisture from them cooling him as he passed through. Small winged creatures flew at his side as he continued to soar.
The sky dimmed as the day came to an end, then it suddenly turned ablaze when the sun dipped below the horizon. A beautiful blend of red, orange and yellow.
That was his favorite part, watching the sunset. he wished he could go there instead of floating in this cold, dark place.

Time was nonexistant, as nothing seemed to change. Nothing could be seen, nothing could be heard, nothing was there at all. it was a complete void.

He tried to change things himself. he tried to move, but as everything was black, he couldn't tell if he change locations.
He tried to speak but no words came out. Instead, a distorted mess, unpleasant to the ears. Not something he would like to hear again.

His mind darkened. Would he stay trapped, alone in this dark place forever? No, there had to be a way out. An exit that leads to paradise, where sunsets exist. Yes, he was sure there was one. Why else would he have those memories, even if they weren't actually his?

So he continued to try to move, even if he couldn't even tell whether or not he was actually moving, he chose to belive he was, and that allowed him to repeat the movements endlessly.

after a while he noticed he never seemed to get tired. Almost as if he wasn't actually doing anything, but he ignored it.
he convinced himself that what he was doing had to work, it had to do SOMETHING.

. . .

. . .

Too much time had passed. Even though there wasn't any actual indication, he could tell. However long a year was, he was sure millions of them had passed.

but still he kept moving. What else could he do? Give in? No, he couldn't do that. If he admitted that what he was doing was useless, he was sure he would fall into the deepest depths of despair and fade into the darkness of this void.

So he kept on going

and he kept going

and he kept going
and he kept going

and the movements became subconcious

and he kept going

and he kept going

and he kept going

and his eyes started to glaze over

and he kept going

and he kept going

and he kept going
and he kept going

and his mind began to numb

and he kept going

and he kept going

and he kept going

and he kept going
and he kept going
and he kept going
and he kept going and he kept going and he kept going and he kept going and he kept going and going and going and going

until he saw something

A speck a color, just barely out of sight.

As his eyes focused on it his mind freed itself from its trance-like state.

and a joy like no other filled him.

YES! YES! Something changed! Something is THERE! Ohhh, what could it be!? A person maybe? or what if its food? I've never eaten anything but i'd like to! OH! What if it's some kind of portal out of here!? I could finally leave!

such excited thoughts filled his head as he continued to move towards the speck.

He found that he actually WAS moving, as the speck gradually grew in size, indicating that he was getting closer.

He was able to make out more of its shape, it was pink and round with two stubby arms and red oval-ish feet.

That shape, it was overly familiar. What was it from again?

The memories! It's the person from the memories!

This made him even more excited.

Someone is actually here! and its even HIM! He probably knows who I am! I bet he's here looking for me! and when we meet up we can go back to where sunsets are!

he realized he was approaching from behind, so he called out to get his attention.

"Hey!" he tried to say

but instead-

"heeqdgiwgwehknsfngdxqcbrcadbnujkfadbszgmkojdkkdecdwwvyj!"

came out.

The unfathomable time spent moving and the excitment from finding his lookalike caused him to forget he was unable to speak.

He worried how his lookalike would react.

Strangely, he didn't react in the slightest. He just sort of stayed in place, motionless.

He felt relieved.
He probably knew i couldn't speak. i fact, i bet he was listening for me, that must be why he's keeping so still. sound really echoes in this place so he probably can't tell that i'm behind him.

he got up close to his lookalike and spun him around, anticipating his suprise.

The abyss stared back at him.

This puffball was no longer a person, but a husk, a shell. Whatever used to be inside was taken.

He shook his lookalike, unaware that it no longer had a soul.

What's wrong with his eyes?

Where is that childish joy, that bubbly smile?

his face darkened.

What happened!?
To you, to the place where the sun sets!?

his mind began to spiral.

No!! No no no! It HAS to still exist!

But if you're like this then. . . Then!

he stopped, he really didn't want to finish that thought.

The thought that he'd never be able to enjoy the paradise from his memories. The thought that he would never leave and would spend eternity alone in this infernal darkness.

that thought crushed him

he cried in anguish

a distorted shreik echoed through the void.

There really wasn't any point after all.

again, he looked down into the empty eyes of his lookalike.

maybe if I had never found you I'd be better off.

I would continue to traverse this empty place, looking for something I would never find, but at least i'd BELIEVE it was out there.

I don't think i can believe anymore.

he began to feel unbearable empty.

but he heard a strange sound

A myraid of colors began to swirl high above him. it started out as a spiral of color but soon grew to a roaring rainbow vortex.

The sudden apperance of this strange anomaly shocked him out of his melancholy.

Is that. . . the way out?

it really does exist!

Something suddenly dropped out of the vortex.

it came to a stop as it floated at the same level as him.

It was. . . that pink fellow again, the one from the memories. The stubby limbs and all.

but this time, instead of being completely still, he spun around, clearly confused.

His eyes met with a person that looked exactly like him, although he was a bit more gray.

"Who. . . are you?"
To be continued. . .
