The life span of oak is longer than most any living creature on earth and yet, it still must die.
The dying bark bark clings to the little life force they have left
They will hunt for new host,
a sapling of a human
To take their head and bring new youth to the aging branches

Chained to a tree, these canine like creatures can't get very far,
you could compare it to a dog trying to bring a stick too big through the front door
