Stuff about Dreamer lanterns and Fairfin in online comments below
( Ok, I now feel like I can do the forgotten lore )
Edit: a cut Bond can be mended, the Dreamer and Fairfin just have to reconnect their link together, it's the same process when they first form a bond.

When a Dreamer is born they have two pearls on their forehead, the Dreamer fawn will shed their second Pearl after 3 months and that Pearl is what put into the a Lantern for when there old enough to have one. The lanterns are referred to as 'the light of Innocence'
-
The Lanterns are made from a high train blacksmith that Specializes in crafting Dreamer lanterns, and they are called ' Dawn Cutters' it takes 100 of practice before they make their first Lanterns to be given to a Dreamer child, it takes another hundred years before they are called a Master Smithy.
a Master Smithy will usually charge for their work as a beginner will be free or cheap.
-
It takes 5 years to make a Lantern some can take longer depending upon the skill level of the Smithy and the intricacy of the design.
The lanterns are made out of special Magic materials, and are a mixture of precious metals native to the land of dreams. Gemstones, ribbons, charms and other accessories are sometimes put on the Lantern.
-
the lanterns are extremely durable and can take quite a bit of abuse, but sometimes cracks and chips to happens, most the time has to go to a Dawn Cutters workshop and get it repaired, depending on how bad the damage is this could take a few days to even a month, if it's a for a long period of time the Dreamer is giving a substitute lantern until theirs is fixed, their second Pearl is place in the temporary Lantern.
(Note: For those who have Dreamers in fine with you change the designs of your Dreamers lantern)
-
The Lantern is giving to the young fawn between 5 to 10 years old, at this time the Dreamer fawn can form a Bond with a Fairfin.
-
A Fairfin is drawing to their Dreamer this is done out of instincts, they just know who their partner is going to be.
This is partially do to the Dreamers Lantern it gives out a single to the Fairfins that a fawn is without a Bond partner and a Fairfin will pick up on the single and answered back.
-
Fairfins congregate in the 'pool of memories' they are located all over the land of dreams, and ever city has at least one if not more, they are well guarded but people can visit.
Fairfins can leave their pool and started searching for their Bond partner.
Fun facts: Rihanna did this with Catch she found him at 6 years old, he had his Lantern for a months before she could find him.
Dreamer parents will take their children to a pool of memories to find their Fairfin.
Note: even Dreamers born outside of the land of dreams, their parents will return back to their home world to get their Lantern crafted and then later on have their children get their Fairfin. This is a must for a Dream

Dreamers and Fairfin share symbiotic relationship one can not survive without the other.
-
A Dreamer after the age of 10 ( a lot of stuff happens to them at that age) if they do not have a Fairfin will start getting the 'choke' at first it not that noticeable but as they start reaching adulthood it gets more severe, the choke is a suffocating presents and will eventually kill them, the Dreamers immune system also starts to decline and they become more accessible to sickness and corruption.
-
Fairfin don't experience the choke unless they are outside of the land of dreams or if they have formed a Bond partner and that link between them has been cut.
-
The difference between a cut link any block link.
Block:
A Fairfin is still link to their Dreamer, so neither one of them are at risk of the choke, what block does is interfere with the Fairfin ability to communicate telepathically to their Dreamer and other Fairfins.
-
A block can be from different things some dark creatures and Magic can block the signal of a Fairfin, Nightmares do this a lot when hunting Dreamers.
A Fairfin can also block other Fairfins from contacting them if they want to.
A Dreamer can block their Fairfin if they want some alone time or privacy.
-
Cut:
A cut link is we're the Fairfin is completely separated from their Dreamer, and their link has been broken, neither one can fill each other's presence and the effects of a choke start to set in.
-
this can happen different ways, ether the two are out side of their range, a Dreamer and Fairfin have about a mile they can be a part but the farther away they are they both will feel a difference.
Separation in two different worlds is one of the worst thing that could happen to the two and is a guaranteed cut.
Some dark creatures can several link between Dreamers and Fairfin but not make can,( not even Mal can do that but Void can.)
If one or the other dies the link is cut.
A Dreamer can cut their link to their Fairfin, this is usually only done if the Dreamer is corrupted and past the point of no return with nightmare syndrome, but that if they still have enough since and will to do so, by Cutting their link their decline with the nightmare syndrome increases rapidly and what little time they had left is even shorter.
-
A Fairfin can cut their own link but they almost never do, their life is for their Bond partner (more on this and the Forgotten lore)
-
If a Dreamer is an adult and their link has been cut, they will feel the effects of the choke immediately and it only get worse the longer they are without their Fairfin. If the Dreamer is suffering from nightmare syndrome this increases the effect.
A Fairfin can form a contemporary link with another creature with compatible Magic, but a Dreamer can not they have to be bonded with a Fairfin to live.

Back to Lanterns!
A dreamers Lantern is a great source of light, Dreamers can also make themselves glow to.
The Dreamers Lantern aslo is a indicator on the condition of the Dreamers heart reflection, the Pearl that they shed and is place within the Lantern reflects their light magic ( note: the Lantern itself changes the color of the magic )
if they have Nightmare syndrome, the light will get darker and cracks will form on the lantern and only get worse if left untreated.
