Zinethiun by ClockwiseLeon

The peasant man said "spare me your fill, and I will be gone tomorrow"
And out of the kindness of his heart, the pagan gave him half of his meal
A few days later, the pagan sought out to gamble his money to obtain a better life, so he left for months to a richer city in the west
In the cold drafty winters, Zinethiun grew desperate, and asked again for meals. No one would give him some. He hadn't seen the pagan either, so he was hopeless. (continued) #sinnachildren

Eventually, he came across swinish men with endless silver coin and bread in their pockets. Starving, the man begged and begged. The swinish party found it amusing, and they struck a deal with him. They will feed him and offer him coin so long as he did what they asked. He agreed to.
The pagan, after so long of being gone had gambled all his money away. He had become a beggar, desperately clawing at the ground for scraps (cont)

The pagan then stumbled across Zinethiun again, and felt joy for he could keep himself fed. He came to him and asked if he could repay the favor. Zinethiun, with cold eyes said "no, for I do not feed peasants" and spat in his eye. The pagan was taken back, only to realize that he had changed greatly. Disappointed, the pagan left. Only to starve himself a week after.

One night, Zinethiun had started gambling his troubles away with sinners and all sorts of hogs, finding that he could gain more later. He was gifted and lucky, gaining money and food until he was the richest man around. He was known for this, as he became undefeated and moved into the city in west. Then, as he won his fifth game in a single night, a man walked in. (cont)

Zinethiun, now fattened and now rich as a god, asked for the mans name and encouraged him to test his luck, seeing as this individual wore rich clothing and seemed so foreign.
He did not answer his name, but agreed to gambling with him,. Zinethiun, prideful and confident, played how he always did. He began to win against the man, taking most of his money, his clothes, and more. Zinethiun speaks to him after he is left with nothing, saying "Go on now, you have nothing left for me. Shoo"
With a hoarse voice, he replied "I wish to play one more game. I do not have money, but I have my arms, my legs, my teeth. These are of value"
Zinethiun was intrigued, but felt unsure. He decided to gamble anyways, finding luck to always be on his side (cont)

At first, as he played, he was sure of winning. But stumped, he lost quickly. Confused and in denial, he shouts "Again"
He loses. He shouts "Again"
He loses once more
"Again"
"Again"
"Again"
He lost everything he had. He was left bare. He was scared. He just needed to win a few more times.
"I bet my arm" he says. He gambles, then loses. He is left without his arm, bandages and cloth covering what is left.
"I bet my teeth" he gambles, then loses. His teeth are gone.
"I offer my leg" He offers, but this time the man refuses. He gets up, takes his winnings, and walks out. Zinethiun runs after him, begging to play another round. The man ignores him and walks off into the pine. He follows.
Zinethiun, bitter and greedy, tries to attack him and take his money back. He is immediately struck down by the man.

"Zinethiun, you take your fill for granted. You bargain your parts just to feel satisfaction. You spit in the eye of the ones who had fed you, and you allow your pride to speak in (cont)

your tongue". The man then cuts out his tongue.
"One who taints their mouth with such impurity does not deserve taste."
The man revealed himself to be Birhaught, a demi-god of pride.
"For your deeds, you will be left at your marrow for the food you indulged, cursed without spwech for your swinish talk, and the head of a beast, for that is no more than what you are. Do not show yourself to anyone, for you are blackened inside and out"
Zinethiun, horrified and disgusted in himself and ashamed of being tricked by a demi god, ran off in the thickets and tall pine. He now spends his days scrounging for whatever he finds, unable to taste it. He dare not show his face now, for he sees Birhaught loom over his shadow, judging him and threatening.
