i don't see why ppl confuse him with robotnik, they're 2 entirely different ppl tho they are related, eggman is robotnik's Grandson.

You're right and your're wrong. Eggman's full name is Doctor Ivo Robotnik in the US. He used that name up until Sonic Adventure and Sonic Advance, where Eggman started being used as an insult. By Adventure 2 it was what everyone, even himself, called him. In Japan he has always used the name Eggman. The person you're thinking of as Robotnik is in fact his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, but in the US Eggman used the Robotnik name for a while too.
