Part 1, Road
-
Gray clouds surrounded the world, mist and fog swirling in the hills of empty fields and shrouding the swaths of forests beyond in a mythical coat of nothing but blurry gray shapes. Despite the promise of rain, the air was crisp and cool, as if it were still autumn. The sun wouldn't be rising for another half hour or so, but the glow of pre-dawn light made the scene on the empty road seem like a fantasy. The sun-bleached asphalt had thousands of cracks big and small, grass poking its way through the holes. The fields lay post-harvest even though it was spring. The soil wouldn't be turned again, nothing but the choking weeds would grow in the fields now. There were no homes on this stretch of road, no broken houses with vines curling over the crumbled foundations. Who would want to live in ruins, or even bother fixing them, anyway? Clearly, this was why they were left there. Clearly. Clearly...
-
It felt as if the road went on for eternity. The sun must've risen by now, yet the clouds gave no sign of light and the mist on the horizon lingered still. A cool breeze ruffled the grass and blew the hair in my face. A stronger gust of wind blew the hood of my jacket off my head and I reluctantly put it back up. The sound of the grass was so quiet, a small noise in my head compared to the sound of my shoes against the crumbled old road. Did people really use other things on this road? (continued aaa I'm in a writing mood)
The Colors! Gallery moderators will look at it as soon as possible.

(rent for the road is free, white)
I had seen many a time a man on a horse. There had been a brown one with white blotches, one with flowers woven into its long white mane, one that was pure white and had rather important-looking ornaments hanging from the saddle. My favorite had been a red-brown horse with a white star on its head, bundles of wood strapped to the side. It had looked at me with soft brown eyes. How I wish I could've had a horse on this endless trek. The road never seemed to end and it felt as if time had stopped moving. My legs had become autonomous, carrying me forward to no end as I looked at the same scene passing by. It should've been dark by now. The mist should've cleared by now. But nothing had changed, everything was still the same empty field with the cracked road and the sound of my footsteps. Until, of course, it changed.
-
A soft, thudding sound began to rise behind me, an even softer click with each thud and ever quieter was what sounded like something breathing, other than me. I stopped and turned around, looking for the source of the sound. Nothing was there, and the noise had vanished. Shivering with the cold wind, I turned back around and continued. Slowly the sounds returned. Another gust of wind tried to tug the hood of my jacket. I looked over to the fields and saw that the fog had come closer. The forests were gone, and the empty hills were being covered up. I turned around again, no creature following, no sound. I stood there, waiting. Impatient, I finally turned back to what I had been doing, and saw a large gray shadow, shaped like an animal. I had seen one like it before, called a dog. But this one was much bigger and had long gray fur that flowed in the breeze. It stood and took a few steps toward me with an odd sense of authority. Instead of black, the creature's pupils seemed white. I took a step back as it came closer, studying me. The wind grew stronger, and then stopped suddenly as the creature pressed its head into my chest.
And it all went a very dark gray.

Who owns the land? I need to buy it from them so I can bring in contractors to build house that I can sell for the maximum profit. People want to live here, it'll be perfect for the ever-growing populace of vriodel.
