Sterven stared in confusion, eyes wide but pupils narrow. She was laying on her side, staring out at the forest. Her ears twitched but she did not move besides shift one leg. The growl in her throat faded and she slowly raised her head, cautious with every movement. //Did they kill me? Are they gone?//
"It's alright you're safe now, and well now you have to live here. Welcoming to central the less depressing part of the forest, firefly free" he sighed feeling rather exhausted he settled himself on the ground waiting for a reply.
The Zeraxi slowly shifted herself into a better position and stared down at her scarred leg. "Fine by me if those bugs don't come back," she said quietly. "I don't care if I ever see those stupid mountains or the ocean again." Her voice wavered and her ears twitched nervously but she forced herself to stay calm. Her legs and side burned from the fireflies.
//Wouldn't count on that// Riptide grumbled to himself, "How about an introduction,,,, Though it's strange for me to do so since I feel I already know." He said rather awkwardly, fiddling with his hands subconsciously.
The Zeraxi's ears twitched again and she winced as she turned her head up to look at the stranger, neck stinging from one of the glowing monsters. "My name is... uh...." She began, stumbling on her words. //What's the right one again?// "S-Sterven," she finally blurted out, unsure of what she had said. "Uhh, yeah. S... Sterven." "I thought your name was-" the bird began, but the Zeraxi cut him off quickly. "And.. uh.. And this is Rib. My friend. Rib." //Smooth.//
"Riptide" he replied with a grim expression, "Perhaps I was thinking of somone else, the name seems,,,, unfamiliar" His voice started to waver before he snapped back. "I'm sorry, welcome to central, Sterven.."
Sterven dipped her head shakily, staring at him suspiciously. "Do I- no, no, never mind." She shook her head so suddenly that the jay was nearly thrown off balance. "Where are we exactly? And what was up with those... /things?/"
Riptide tilted his head, "The elders? I'm not too sure.... or do you mean the bugs, nasty things, they'll attack any unwelcome vistor, honestly I feel like they feed on souls...." He paused "And as for your other question this is somewhere between worlds? Strangely enough though it has ties to what the locals call it, Ni'rr"
The Zeraxi froze at the name of the forest and her eyes widened, legs shaking. She starred at Riptide in horror. "You... You mean the dark forest? Th-thi... THIS is the dark forest?! I was told never to come near this place it- it was always just this big shadow on the dawn horizon I..." Sterven's frantic words turned into silence as she tried to steady herself.
"I mean I did tell you to leave before the bugs even came" he mumbled "At leadt you won't have to worry about being eaten alive, but you are stuck here now." He pointed
The Zeraxi's tails flicked in sync as she thought of what to do. With a sigh she mumbled, "Break the rules three times and you're out, I guess." She shook her head and looked around. "So what now? Any secrets hidden deep within the forest?" Sterven tried to continue casually, swaying a bit to make it seem like she could actually walk somewhere.
"We're not aloud out into it unless commissioned to do so, but lets just go check out the forest town. Basically where all the other workers live." He said helping her up. (Sterv: Secrets secrets secrets Rip: No bois, let's check out house)
"Alright," Sterven mumbled, staggering forward. //Where's some wings when you need them?// she thought, looking down at the feather on her necklace. The once starry blue tip was now dull and she sighed. "Hopefully none of them are dragons," she hissed to herself.
(rip: cmonnnnnn houseeeeee sterv: yeah but no draggos mkay thx bye)
"Well even then most of them keep to their selves, I think you'll like it, it is a lot nicer than the rest of the forest for sure." He smiled skipping ahead a bit,
"Fine," the Zeraxi finally replied, trying to catch up. Her legs became numb, yet it helped her keep moving, as if they were stuck in the cycle. A soft white firefly passed by her and she growled, not realizing at first that they were safe.
"We're almost there he called back, well I'm here" Riptide chuckled at the the zeraxi who was a bit was behind. "There" he pointed towards the big hollow tree house decorated with laterns. "Pretty nice right?"
Sterven's ears twitched at his joke, then stood straight as she looked at the large tree. The light of the lanterns almost seemed like the fireflies but she paid them no mind. Her eyes wandered as she tried to comprehend what was going on, still in a daze.
