Out stepped a dapper, but evil-looking being. His name was Xalice. He simply said he came in peace, and was looking to offer some... special services.
The people weren't really sure what he meant by "special services", but they soon found out. Intimidating soldiers came from the ship, and started wrecking the airstrip! D:
Xalice explained that should ruffians should come to wreck their places, like so, they'll run them out for them... For a price. ( How evil can you be? >:( )

Valdis was a child when this happened, and didn't understand why these guys were here... But she knew she'd try to get rid of Xalice one day soon.
You see, the people of Ashira had the ability to use their spirtual energy as a means of healing, as well as using it to attack. And Valdis was pretty gifted at her young age, but she wasn't as strong as she thought she was...
A few weeks later, when Xalice was being paraded down a street as his guards took up "donations" from the people, Valdis was scheming to attack him.

When her parents saw her walking towards Xalice, they frantically tried treach her, but there were too many people to squeeze by!
She charged an energy orb in her hand, and threw it into Xalice's 'float', causing the guards to be blown back by the surprise attack!
They frantically got up to check on their leader, who was steaming mad. His cold stare searched the crowd, and focused on the lone little girl, who glared back at him. She said only: Get off our planet, scum.

The guards readied their lasers, and were prepared to fire, whe he stopped them.
"Heh heh.. you have a lot of spirit, kid. You misunderstand, really. I just want to help"...
Brushing himself off, he walked towards her. Valdis wasn't buying it, but she decided to let him think she did. He put his hand on her shoulder, and lead her towards his ship, followed by a few soldiers.
The pilots started the engines, and they took off, something she didn't expect. She tried to make for the door, but Xalice flew in front of her, and kicked her back!

She flipped back up, and fired a volley of energy blasts at him!
But he was fast, and dodged them all, making his way towards the child. Valdis wasn't physically strong, so the punch that he delivered to her knocked her out cold.
"Make a fool out of me, huh? Stupid brat... Leave her on that planet inhabited by the Raptoids", he ordered. When the ship landed, Valdis was kicked out, and left to die there.
After a while, she came to, and quickly looked around. This wasn't Ashira. .-. Where did they leave her?? But she couldn't ponder this for long, for an Aqua-Raptoid had just surfaced! But she remained calm, and quickly blasted a hole through its stomach.

It was easy... but all her energy blasts could do was blow up his float. He was fine from that. If she was going to defeat Xalice, she needed to be stronger than him. Faster than him. More cunning.
So began her training on the Raptoid planet. Her diet was some of the plants, and the occasional beast she'd do battle with.
It was a very lonely life, and all that kept her going was that one day, she'd destroy Xalice with her bare hands. Days turned into weeks. Weeks into months. Months into years.

At 17, Valdis was becoming more rutheless, and stronger. She also learned how to fly by getting a better control of her energy. ( Nice, right? )
Charging up, she jumped so hard, she left a crater on the ground, and shot clear up into the sky. :o It was bit rough upon exiting the atmosphere, but now she was in space. ...Now where to next? It's been so long since she's been to her home planet.

As if fate was guiding her destiny, a ship was passing by. In an instant, Valdis flew to it, and shifted it back down to the Raptoid planet, being careful to not damage it.
The pilot came out, startled and confused. Which intesified when a muscular-ish, half-dressed young girl landed in front of him.
"You will take me to Ashira", she demanded.
Lucky for him, he was just heading that way, so he escorted her back to Ashira.
It looked vastly different in the years since Xalice took over. His likeness was seen almost everywhere.
"Spineless cowards. No one dared to oppose him..", she seethed with rage.

Xalice's guards swarmed spaceship, and began to eyeball Valdis. She may have been rough-looking, but dang, she was purty hawt. ( Omg, barf. xD )
Valdis played them for chumps, and used her blossoming beuaty to manipulate them into telling her where Xalice was. And to thank them for being such fine gentlemen.... Snapped necks, and holes blasted through abdomens...
Meanwhile, a soldier had reported to Xalice, saying that a young woman with firey red hair was blasting through defenses, making her way to their location.

"Turn on the moniters", he commanded. When they flashed on, he eyed the assailant beating her way through guards, with a fierce look on her face. ...She seemed familiar, though. He ordered them to let her in, but it was a bit too late, for she had just off'd the last guard that was blocking the door to his room, and was about to break the seal.
"That won't be neccessary, miss. Men, open the door for our lovely guest".
The door opened, and in she stepped. "Xalice... I've waited a long time for this".
"I know I've seen you somewhere before, but memory escapes me, love".
"I'm not surprised. Do you know why I'm here"?
"Seeing how you've destroyed my guards, you must have quite the vendetta against me".

"You could say that. Funny, you weren't looking at me like that all those years ago when you pummeled me as a child".
Those words reminded Xalice of that day... The day when that upstart knocked him over... But... This COULDN'T be her!
"Y-you're supposed to be dead! How did you survive the Raptoids"!?
"Knowing that one day I'd rip your head off helped a lot. Speaking of which"...
Xalice did everything he could to try and defeat her, but Valdis ouclassed him, thanks to her training.
Xalice tried to reason with her to spare him, but she kept her promise... Off went his head.

When the remaining guards saw this, they started kneeling before her. Some more so than others so she wouldn't destroy them. She surveyed them all, and felt like she could get use to this. >:]
She stood in front of a curious crowd who were wondering what was all the commotion.
"Hear me, citizens! I am Valdis, warrior of Ashira! I have been exiled from my home for many years, but I have returned! But to what? A pitiful shell of a once prosperus world ruled by this... filth". She raises the head of Xaldis for all to see, which grosses out many...
"I'm ashamed of you all. Not once did you try to fight back. >:/ You're pathetic. Weak. That's why... That's why I've taken it upon myself to lead Ashira".
And with that, Ashira was ruled by Valdis. Which actually wasn't bad. She loves her home planet.

But after a while, she felt the need to explore more places... To... try to conquer them for fun.
And this is how she became sort of an anti-hero.

Valdis is pretty strong, and with her energy-based attacks, she's almost untouchable. She loves a good fight, and will destroy those who are weak. She currently has another planet under her treaty, and often goes off alone to train herself further.
