Divinity was a well-known and respected leader of her kingdom. There were two kingdoms where celestians lived, the water/ice and the fire/rock kingdoms. Divinity (being the leader of the water/ice kingdom) is Kohaku's loved cousin. However, one dreadful day, Divinity was caught "roaming with the enemy". Word spread around the kingdom, and for it being true, Divinity was expelled from her leadership, and sentenced to death. It was so brutal because of what had happened in the past between the two kingdoms. Her chosen death was poison. Although she had managed to escape, the poison had taken her right arm, and slightly her left arm, as well as some of her vision.
Divinity escaped the kingdom and found Kohaku in the forest, which is where they would usually meet. This place was very special to the both of them because that is where they grew up together, since they both don't have any siblings. When Divinity told Kohaku about the situation, they both decided it was best to escape the two kingdoms altogether. Kohaku (being a fire bending sword wielder) had protected and has been loyal to Divinity ever since.
