#NetNeutrality #LearnAboutNN
I'm not one to usually get into politics nor my views on them, but this is just getting depressing, all you peops are hearing is that "it's the end of the internet" and not questioning any further. I'll explain everything i can about NetNeutrality to give you a better understanding of what it means, what it's likely to effect, & how it may or may not effect you. This might get a bit opinionative sense a lot will be speculations.
'Net Neutrality' is the badic principle that keeps internet service providers (ISP) from speeding up, slowing down, or blocking app's and websites, basically meaning they can't choose favorites.
On december 14th, a vote was heald between legal parties, with the republicans (lead by ajit pai) outvoted 3-2 the repeal (Meaning getting rid of) of NN.
But because this is law based, (it has happened twice before, this man has been trying to get rid of NN for awhile) it needs literal MONTHS to go through the supreme court, and be given a good reason as to why removing NN is a good idea, which tbf, we expected pai to win the voting part, but in the court, where several lawsuits against him are happening, is where things are actually decided. Basically, unless he can find a way to get past them, NNs repeal won't get finalized.
Trying to simple this down as much as possible for everyone to understand. (con in comments)
The Colors! Gallery moderators will look at it as soon as possible.

Now for the part YOU want to hear.
Q: Is the internet dead?
A: No, and nothing is going to happen in the next few days, weeks, or even a months, because sense it hasn't been finalized as a actual law or whatever you call it, it can't come into effect.
Even if it did happen, ISPs are likely to go after their competitors, slowing their sites/apps (or just upright blocking them) down so you choose your providers service instead.
Q: If this does happen, does that mean paying higher prices for internet?
A: Well, it doesn't mean prices for the internet will suddenly skyrocket from 10-30$ a month to a hundred, but if they can manage to get it through the supreme court, there won't be much stopping them except public complaint.
Q: Will my favorite websites stop existing?
A: No, ISPs will likely target competitors and big league companies, so small sites like this or weasyl won't just die, sense they are neither popular nor any compitition. And i doubt deviantart will be all that effected

But without getting TOO technically or political, we're all pretty safe for now, and have several months before anything gets finalized.
Are your parents concerned about this as well? then have them help congress. (the ones on our side) Get them to urge their lawmaker or state to use a "resolution of disapproval" to overturn the FCCs decision. Voice your (or if your parents are concerned about this) disaproval of this, nothing about this is over, and just like the last 2 times, unless it gets through the supreme court, we'll all be ok. (done)
If you have questions ask and i'll answer them here as bestand simple as i can.

Oh wait... forgot, some if not most ISPs already charge a shet ton for internet, or add charges for unexplained reasons, without worry of competition. so yeah, guess thats technically already a thing.

I have another question (I haven't seen it in your explanation, if you DID cover this: I'm sorry...)
Supposedly it takes a long time to start, but... how will this effect people working online/starting to work online? I assume companies will be fine(?). But what about people who'll just start to try to make money, and HAVE to go online to: work/pay bills, will they be able to or prices will eventually push out not only entertainment, but... work use of the internet?
15 Dec, 2017, 5:06 pm
I just hope that it doesn't go through. I think the net neutrality thing already started on YouTube. But i'll be hopeful. Thank you for explaining it

Re: One question~ What is your favorite oc? (your ones)
15 Dec, 2017, 5:34 pm
@Cleric: It might never happen in the first place, but with companies, they will actually be in the most danger, as starting a new buisness means you'll need to advertise, and if (Doesn't mean they will, but doesn't mean they won't either) ISP's favor their own things and those who pay the highest over others. then small buisnesses will likely have problems getting off the ground.
For those who work independently online, i'm not entirely sure it will effect us much, at least, i can't see a way it will effect us, things like paypal and other things don't have many competitors, so people working independently online should be fine.
@Dynoluvva No problem

Good to know. I wasn't really sure how it worked, just knew that if it was finilized it would be bad, so thanks for clarification!

15 Dec, 2017, 8:41 pm

15 Dec, 2017, 8:46 pm
Thank you
Low-key was gonna have a heart attack :'y

I actualy think there's I high chance Nintendo will block YouTube, wich is a shame because I can only access YouTube from my 3DS... TwT
15 Dec, 2017, 10:44 pm
@Vivie No problem
@WxDragonxB Net neutrality has only been around for about 2 years, before then ISP's were free to block competitors or those they didn't like. (and did on several occasions) It's not that they don't still do that even with the NN rule, they just are more, "under the rug" about it.
For regular civillians like us, the main danger of losing NN is the potential for more expensive wifi. Which even if NN was repealed, doesn't mean it will happen, theories whether good or bad are only possibilities, not facts.
@Alien Ninten however, isn't a ISP, so anything between them & youtube has nothing to do with this and would happen even if the NN thing wasn't happening. i think from that all that would happen is the downloadable app is removed sense it's not neccesary for newer 3ds's, sense they can access youtube through the web browser. The same thing happened with The playstation vita, the app was removed because you could access youtube through the web browser. basically the-

-App was made useless.

Thank you very much, now off to rub in my friends face that NN has not been around for 27 yrs, and that Wikipedia is never the place to go when researching.
15 Dec, 2017, 11:14 pm
Well F*** I don't have a New3DS and I don't plan on using the money I'm saving up for a Switch on anything else...
16 Dec, 2017, 12:10 am
i don't know why people were worried about this. :o
the internets just reverting back to what it was before 2015. :o
i'll be honest, i've not felt a difference between having and not having net neutrality.
16 Dec, 2017, 12:14 am
I didn’t even know anything about Net Neutrality until yesterday!! I was around when the internet was not so F**KING laggy!!! LET THE INTERNET GO BACK TO THE WAY IT USED TO BE BEFORE NET NEUTRALITY, DAMN IT!!!
16 Dec, 2017, 12:19 am
You literally took the words from my mouth @Cookies! xD
I remember when NN was implemented. It did not really notice a change (Maybe thats just me?) so when I heard it was being appealed, I was not worried. >3<
Thank you so much for helping people out with this @Cookies, i'm sure their finding it relief inducing revelation! ^o^
Oh yeah, and i'll definately check in on the picture you mentioned! A request shall be sent tonight! >:D
16 Dec, 2017, 12:20 am
Oh gosh, welp! @Pooky just said what I said in fewer words! xD
16 Dec, 2017, 2:14 am
Wait what!? did my comment not go through? shet i'm not rewriting all of that.
In short so i dun have to redo that.
@Pooky I personally support net neutrality staying. But ye, i don't think it really effected the average person back then.
@Emblem Slow internet is inevitable as more things and more people come onto the internet everyday, at least i think thats how it works. nvr took the time to study that.
@Haiiro Long as i can help, & let people know it doesn't mean the internets being deleted.
xD And thanks for the request everyone.
