Chris' new best friend and Pokemon partner in this story is Froakie.
He found Chris unconscious, who felled from the RIFT in the sky, and soon learns via eavesdropping after waking up, that it was not only a boy from another world, but someone that almost no one cares about. Being curious of the boy, it started following him, and eventually befriended the kid, to give him company in this unknown world.
It was the start of a friendship like nothing they both had ever imagined.

Also, after being protected by the boy from one of the savage aliens, as well as learning that his new trainer had supernatural abilities, he became worried that Chris could get hurt or even murdered by those monsters, and also wanted to still fulfill his promise of friendship to him, which is why he followed the kid to his world and help him out with this "mission" and protect him.

So that's his reason why he accompanies Chris' adventures. To prevent someone from hurting his friend. Now that's true friendship right there!
