A character originally designed for @dead-kitsukii poke pony contest. However, I happened to like the design so much that I wanted to figure out how to use her. Also figure out a way how she would fit into Equestria, as pokemon/pony hybrids are not something that exisit. I felt that I had to find a reason why she looked the way she did in Equestria, without any pokemon fusions involved. I looked to the cannon ghost stories and mlp lore for inspiration.

Mainly the Alicorn Amulet, an amulet that could corrupt a pony and change their eye color and magic color, and King Sombra, the evil king from the Crystal Empire. I also noted how quite a bit of the villians magic has to do with emotions and a lot hapoened in Equestria 1000 years ago. Two ideas came from this research, her cutie mark and over-all story for #nmncomic.

In the comic, Lavendula is trying to learn more about magic by summoning a spirit from a 1000 years ago. she estimated that this was when a majority of emotion based magic was being used and wanted to learn more. But awakening a long dead spirit has consequences, and so she was still trying to firgure out a safe way to do it. As you can see from above, things didn't quite work out. For her cm I looked up plants that had associations with magic and found lavender. It is supposed to have a calming effect and is also associated with protecting. I thought this would be a good trait for a teacher pony and so I went with lavender as her cm.
In the normal version, the lavender is supposed to look natural with a few random dots around it. The main reason for the dots is so one of them can turn into a skull in the corrupted version.
Since some magic can affect cutie marks, the cm changing is plausible. In the corrupted version, it's supposed to rememble a skull and crossbones, except cross lavender instead of bones. It's a slight difference, but there is a difference.

I decided to make her a teacher just so she would be called "Miss Magius" much like the pokemon mismagius. Then her name is Lavendula because that's the scientific name for lavender. I thought it sounded a bit cooler.

Of course, after the events of #nmncomic, she is soon fired from her teaching position. She starts up her own apothecary and trains #missdreavus in the ways of dark magic.

As far as the state of corruption goes, over time it gets worse. So in the comic, while her appearance has changed, she still is basically herself. But she is definitly fired by the end of the school year for being a "completly different pony" than the one they had originally hired.
