(Aggron) Alrighty. Let's get started now, give me a minute and I'll write something.

Back in the forest hideout, Armin was drinking some coffee and glancing at the clock on the wall every few minutes. //It's only been half an hour,// he thought, but it didn't reassure him. Despite his reluctance to rush off and save Ivy from whatever trouble she'd gotten herself into, he didn't want her to be killed. He also couldn't afford to lose Jeremiah - without him, his chances of defeating Sargon would be practically nil.

After another few minutes, he came to a decision. //I'll go after them. I'll even help rescue the idiot girl if I find her.//

He stood up and walked to the door, picking up his sword and sheathing it over his shoulder along the way.

Sheldon glanced anxiously at Tochi, then back at her grandparents. 'I-I don't mind,' he said. 'I'll have tea as well, if that's what everyone else is having.'

{Vitis grins at Crowley after he finishes his story.}"Well, that's a-O.K. in my book. You feel good enough to get that drink now?"

(Aggron)

Crowley tilted his head to one side, considering. 'Hmm, lemme find out...' He leapt off the bed and landed lightly on his feet, wincing a little but staying upright. 'Yep, I'm all good.'

"Very well," said Caroline, turning and heading off into the kitchen. Henry walked over to the couch and sat down. "Don't forget the biscuits, Carol," he called.
Tochi took a seat on an armchair next to the couch.

Sheldon shot Tochi a look of betrayal before slowly sitting down on the other end of the couch, as far from Henry as he could get without appearing rude. He knew it was silly, Tochi's grandparents seemed like perfectly nice people, but they made him a little uneasy.

//Oh, who am I kidding?// he asked himself. //Everyone makes me uneasy.// He stared at his shoes hanging over the edge of the couch, and hoped someone would break the silence.

"So how've things been, pumpkin?" Henry asked, looking at Tochi. "Haven't seen you in /years./"

"It's been... well... troubling," Tochi admitted. "Something big happened in our town. Something not very nice." she glanced at Sheldon.

Sheldon met her gaze, then blinked up at Henry in surprise, momentarily forgetting his nerves. 'Hasn't... hasn't news of what happened reached Riverside yet...?'

//The villagers here MUST have heard!// he thought worriedly. //They can't possibly have NOT HEARD! Although, maybe Tochi's grandparents don't read the papers. Or leave the house. Or anything.//

Locking the door behind him, Armin set off into the woods. It was easy enough for him to figure out which direction Jerry had taken to get to the city; his vampiric senses allowed him to follow the investigator's scent trail.

After several minutes went by without incident, he pulled to a halt, frowning slightly. Without explanation, the scent had vanished. In its place was a smell unpleasantly similar to a werewolf's. //I'd recognise that anywhere,// he thought. //But why is it here?//

Just then, he caught sight of a hollow tree a few feet away, and curiously wandered over to investigate.

"No," said Henry. "Me and Carol don't really keep up-to-date on such things. What happened, Ginger Biscuit?"

(Draco)

Sheldon opened his mouth to ask Henry to stop calling him that, then closed it and shrugged helplessly. 'Uhhm... it's very hard to explain. VERY hard.' He gave Tochi a pleading look.'

(ignore the speech mark at the end of that)

Tochi gave a slight sigh. "Well, basically... all the non-humans in the city decided to start a war against the humans. Most of the humans are dead, but we managed to get away." She hesitated, then said quietly, "Mum and Dad /could/ be dead. We haven't seen them."

"Dear me," Henry whispered. "And I always thought they were just as good as us humans... maybe your parents were-"

Whatever he'd been about to say was interrupted as Caroline re-entered the room with tea and a tin of biscuits.

Sheldon shook his head vigorously even as Caroline came into the room. 'No! Not - not ALL non-humans are like that. I'm SURE some of them are in the city fighting against the evil ones...' He hunched his shoulders miserably, remembering that he wasn't human himself now either. Would these people hate him if they found out?

"Oh yes, yes, I'm sure there are," said Henry, taking his tea. He gave Sheldon a strange look and mumbled, "Certainly, yes, there are..."

Caroline sat down beside her husband. "What's this about?" she asked the room in general.

Sheldon stared into his teacup and tried to decide on the best way to explain. It had to be said gently; the old lady would probably have a heart attack from the shock if he just told her outright... but then, how...?

'Shacklestone City has been invaded by non-humans and nearly everyone is dead,' he blurted out.

//Well done, Sheldon,// he told himself. //That was really the best way to explain.//

Caroline's eyes widened. She didn't seem too likely to have a heart attack, but she was definitely surprised. "Are you quite sure, Sheldon?"

"Completely sure," Tochi confirmed, and her grandparents exchanged a glance.

"Well, this... changes things," Caroline said quitely. For a second her eyes filled with some sort of emotion - regret, perhaps. But it was gone as quickly as it'd come. "I'm glad you two are safe, at least."

Sheldon nodded and wrapped both hands around his teacup to keep them warm. 'What are we going to do now?' he said miserably. 'We can't go back, both our parents are most likely DEAD, and I'm--' He quickly cut himself off before he accidentally revealed his secret. 'And I bet you anything that the invaders will come here too, and destroy Riverside just like they did to Shacklestone.'

"Surely not!" Henry exclaimed. "They can't possibly go that far, they're still peopl-"

Caroline gave him a meaningful look, and he cleared his throat and said, "I mean... we're prepared for if they do. And you can certainly stay here with us until something happens, either with your parents or... or the non-humans."

'But how CAN we be prepared?' Sheldon groaned. 'Y-you didn't see them! They completely destroyed Shacklestone! It looks like the end of a zombie apocalypse movie! If they come here...' He hesitated, then pushed himself onward. 'Then we'll have to run away. And eventually there won't BE anywhere left to run.'

Even though it was Henry and Caroline he was replying to, he felt like he was saying the words to Tochi more than anyone else. He just couldn't see how they were going to survive this, and desperately wanted her to say something reassuring, even though it was probably impossible.

"Well... we might not be THAT prepared," Henry admitted. "But we know a lot about non-human species. We know more than you think. So we should be able to figure out a solution."

Tochi looked like she was going to speak up, but she didn't.

Sheldon nodded again, and took a large gulp of his tea. Then he decided to change the subject. 'So, um, it's definitely OK for us to stay the night? Maybe longer if... if we need to?'

"Of course it's okay," Caroline smiled, reaching in the tin for a Custard Cream. "You two can share the guest bedroom. Stay as long as you like - it's an interesting change, having more than two people in the house."

'Thanks. Thank you. Yes, we'll do that.' Sheldon glanced at the biscuit tin but didn't take anything; he was too nervous to eat and his stomach felt like it was tying itself in knots. Instead, he looked over at Tochi, wondering why she was being so quiet.

(It's evening, very close to nighttime now)

"You're very welcome, Ginger Biscuit," Henry said, eyeing the biscuits. "In fact-" he threw a glance out the window, "-You two should be heading to bed pretty soon now."

"Oh yes," Tochi finally spoke up. "I can show Sheldon where the guest bedroom is."

Sheldon nodded yet again, and got to his feet, putting his half-empty teacup on the side table. 'I'd like that,' he said quietly. He didn't really want to talk anymore. He sort of just wanted to curl up in a nice warm bed and maybe chat with Tochi about how they should plan their death scenes.

{As Jerry wandered through the city looking for Ivy, he was careful to avoid any and all of Sargon’s roaming men. \\Now, where is that girl?//}

Tochi stood too, finishing her tea. "Goodnight Grandma, goodnight Grandpa," she said pleasantly, starting to leave the room. Caroline replied with a "Sweet dreams" and Henry gave her a nod and a smile before taking a couple of biscuits out the tin.

Once they were out of the room, Tochi said, "Sorry if they were... weird or anything. They're very nice though."

Ivy sneaked through the streets, following familiar routes until she came to her parents' home. Upon first seeing it, she gasped loudly before quickly covering her mouth. The place was ruined. Half the house had crumbled away to reveal the dark, empty rooms within. Her parents' car, a blue Ford Fiesta, lay on its side in the road. There was no sign of its owners.

She slowly slumped against the garden fence and dropped to her knees, gazing mournfully at the wreckage. //They didn't escape,// she thought numbly.

Sheldon blinked and looked at her. 'Um - no. They were... fine. I know they're good people... they seem very friendly.' He stumbled over something on the floor. 'So, where is this bedroom?'

Armin glanced around to make sure nobody was spying on him before leaning towards the hollow tree. He found Jeremiah's hat and trench coat hidden inside, and guessed that the investigator had changed into some sort of disguise before continuing into the city. //I suppose the werewolf-like scent was him, too,// he mused.

He pulled the hat out of the tree and set it on his own head with a flourish, before drawing his sword and setting off again, this time following the werewolf scent.

"Just through here..."

Tochi lead him down the short hallway and through a door. They were now in a slightly untidy room. The walls were painted reddish-pink, the floor was smooth dusty wood, there was a double bed in the corner, and a small TV on top of a bookshelf.

"Hasn't been used in quite some time," Tochi commented.

Sheldon glanced about uneasily, taking in the colours of the room and the furniture that all looked in need of a thorough polish. 'It's nice, though,' he mumbled. 'And there's only one bed. It's quite a big bed, but it's still only one bed.' He didn't actually mind, but felt the need to point that out for some reason.

"There IS only one bed," Tochi agreed. "Hopefully you don't mind sleeping too close to me?"

'Oh, no!' said Sheldon hastily. 'Not at all! Well, not as long as YOU don't mind sleeping next to me. I don't snore. At least I don't think so.'

Ango and Keenan run up a street, eerily (sp?) familiar despite the ruin around them. The large form of the children's home comes into view, Ango slowing slightly as she sees it's doors handing off it's hinges. Keenan steps in front of her.
"Stay back."
He says as he shifts into his lion form, scenting the air and ground.
"A couple of vampires and shifters went in a while ago, still kinda fresh-ish...and some humans and shifter scents...considerably earlier than the vamps."
"So they all made it out alive!"
"You don't know that."
"I do! Because I believe in them."
Toby gives an affermative bark, nose to the ground for a moment.
At the back of the group, Emilia watches them all run off with a slight, soft smile.
"Do you have much family, dear?"

Tochi laughed. "I don't mind sleeping next to you. I donl't think I snore either - at least, no-one's ever told me I do."

'That's - good, I think.' Sheldon tentatively approached the bed and sat on the edge of it. He'd chosen the side furthest away from the door. After stealing a glance at Tochi to see if she was going to sit down as well, he pulled off his shoes and threw them aside, revealing his red-and-white striped socks.

Tochi didn't sit down yet, instead going to the bookshelf and taking out a few books. She carried them over to the bed and, spotting Sheldon take his shoes off, said, "Your socks are cute."

A short while after Anastasia brought Morty in, Count Sargon left his room on the top floor and walked downstairs to the prisoner's room. With a few curt words, he ordered the guard to leave. Then the old vampire opened the door and stepped inside, giving no outward sign of unease but mentally preparing himself for a possible attack.

'Hello again, Mortikai,' he said calmly.

(Draco)

Sheldon pulled himself up to lean against the bed's headboard. When he heard Tochi's remark, he managed to look pleased and embarrassed at the same time. 'Uhmm, thank you?' he replied uncertainly. 'They're a Christmas present from last year.' He glanced at the books she was carrying, but didn't get up to fetch any for himself.

Tochi climbed onto the bed and opened one of the books, humming to herself.

Sheldon mumbled something indistinctly to himself and adjusted his pillow. Then he sat up straighter and started combing his fingers through his hair, to dislodge some twigs and leaves that had gotten into it during the trek through the forest.

He thought about starting a conversation, but Tochi had begun to read and he didn't want to disturb her.

However, Tochi was the one to start talking.

"How long do you think we'll stay here?" she wondered, not taking her eyes off the pages.

{Vitis grins at Crowley.}”Ok, let’s go!” {Vitis gets up and begins to walk out. } “Pythia, we’re leaving now! Thanks for saving this idgit!”

'I'm not really sure,' replied Sheldon. 'I suppose if this place IS attacked like - like the city was, then we'll have to leave. But if for some reason that doesn't happen... then we'll just have to stay here, won't we? I mean, neither of us can go back to our parents... assuming they're not dead...'

(Aggron)

Crowley stumbled after Vitis. 'Yeah, thanks, healer lady!' he shouted. 'I don't really care, cuz I wouldn't have died anyway. But I guess you helped a little.'

Tochi wanted to tell him that their parents probably weren't dead, but she knew it wasn't true. "Yes, I suppose so. It really hope those invaders don't come here... I want us to be safe here forever. I want us to have a happy ending."

Sheldon slumped down so he was lying on the bed, and put his hands behind his head. 'Me too,' he said softly, gazing up at the ceiling. 'I don't even really care what the non-humans do anymore. And that sounds awful, but... all I really want is for US to be safe. We've been through enough.'

In the short time that had passed, Mortikai had sat further back on the bed to cross his legs, and was absent-mindedly playing with the ribbon of his hat. He looks up with an almost childlike curiosity at Sargon before giving him a slight grin, placing his hat beside him.
"Good evening, Count."

Sargon nodded slowly in acknowledgement. 'I hope you haven't been uncomfortable in here. I know it isn't very well-funished, but these rooms are rarely used by anybody. In any case, I would like to ask you a few questions. After that... we can discuss releasing you.'

"Mhmm. While I would be happy if the rest of the human race survived with us, it doesn't really matter as long as we're safe and together and happy."

"Eh, not really," Thorn replied vaguely. "My parents were pretty normal I guess, and I had no siblings." she shrugged.

Sheldon tried to look normal even though he was internally squealing with happiness at the 'together' part. 'Y-yes. Of course I don't WANT anyone to die, especially not people we KNOW, but we can't really help them, can we? We're just two humans...' Suddenly he looked morose again. 'Nevermind, no we aren't.'

(I'll probably have to go kinda soon, just a heads-up!)

"We're a human and a very friendly werewolf," Tochi said, smiling that signature(sp?) Tochi-smile. "And we're going to get through this together - and possibly on our own."

Sheldon hesitated, then gave a timid smile back. 'Hopefully, yes.' Then he glanced at the window, noticing it was now fully dark outside. 'Maybe we should sleep... we don't know what might happen tomorrow.'

"Probably." Tochi responded, closing her book and putting it on the floor beside the rest of the books. She stretched and, noticing she hadn't done so yet, took off her shoes. Her socks were pastel blue with white toes.

Sheldon, still wearing his daytime clothes, pulled up the bedcovers almost to his chin and let out a small contented sigh. 'Beds are underrated,' he mumbled, half to himself. 'Everyone should celebrate their existence. Life is hard without beds.'

"Ah, an only child. Much like my Ango...though Tobias is much like a brother to her, and the other children in the home say she's like a big sister."
She says with fondness in her voice, watching her daughter and the others gather in front of the abandoned home.

"Well, if it's only a few questions then I'm sure I'll be able to give you the answers."
As he speaks, he loosely crosses his arms, showing that he has no plan to attack.
"Though, if I may, after you recieve whatever information you need from me, may I ask you something? I'm told that I'm quite patient, so I'll sit through any questions you throw at me."

Tochi snuggled into the bed with one foot hanging out the side. "Very true," she said quietly. "A bed is like a cuddly friend that helps you sleep and keeps you warm..."

The Count considered for a brief moment, then replied, 'Yes. After you have given me the answers I seek, you may ask me anything that is on your mind. I cannot guarantee that I'll answer every one, however.'

He was silent for another moment, then abruptly said, 'I wish to know more about this spirit, Brink. Is it true that those who make a deal with it gain extraordinary magical abilities in return?'

"Heh." Thorn smiled slightly. "She must have some nice friends. The only people I really know are the ones that I work with, and who knows where they are now!"

Sheldon was quiet for a few minutes. Then he rolled over and rested his chin on his pillow, staring blankly at the headboard. 'I wonder if anyone actually IS fighting against those creatures... or trying to.'

"I imagine SOME people are," Tochi said, closing her eyes. "And I wish them luck."

(Draco)

Sheldon hummed in the back of his throat, too tired to make a verbal response. Mimicking Tochi, he shut his eyes and tried to relax. Moments later he had drifted away into sleep. He didn't snore, but he occasionally mumbled to himself.

He pauses a moment, shifting his position slightly.
"But if you want stronger powers, then harder tasks are given. I know for sure that murder is one of them, and from what I've seen you're probably very capable of that."
