Apollo landed softly on a snow-covered branch, tucking in his four green wings against the cold. Where was he? After flying so long, one ought to be lost, and that he was. The owl-like creature looked around with bright green eyes, antenna flopping goofily as a pile of snow fell on his head. He shook it off and looked more. A large blue snake-like thing was slithering towards the tree he was perched on and he pressed himself against the snowy branch, wings pressed tight against his body.

Varun's eyes caught a rocky outcrop ahead and he rippled forward to investigate, but he paused when a lump of snow landed on his head. The serpent tipped his head until he spotted Apollo, nearly camouflaged amongst the snow and pine needles above.

The lunar moth owl flinched and pressed harder against the tree, eventually replying in a shaky sort of soft coo, "Uh- er, hi there, stranger," Apollo stuttered, realizing the sort of ribbony strands on his tail were dangling down from either side of the branch. Suddenly he wished he weren't so green, but thus is life sometimes.

Despite the dangerous look his slit eyes gave, Varun smiled charmingly up at the moth owl. "Greetings, little one. Are you cold?"

(mmm, nope, not that I know of. Can you give a basic description of either/both of them?)

Apollo gazed warily at the serpent and shifted his position so he was slightly less shoved into a tree. "Uhh, a little, yeah," he replied nervoulsy again in a soft voice. His eyes wavered and for a moment the owl considered flying off.

(Oooh, they sound cool! Right now the characters are in a taiga forest laden with snow. Throw your characters in wherever you wish! I can add a second character if you'd like, too.)

(Ahhhh idk if I can continue

Varun tilted his head, blue scales glistening. "Why not come down here? You will be out of the taiga wind."

"Of course, of course," Varun said, nodding his head in agreement. He surveyed their surroundings a moment. "It is rather hard to see down here, but that's why I live in the water. And understandably, you wish to stay up in the trees, even while it is cold and windy." His gaze returned to the moth owl and he watched him patiently.

(Varun: *totally not trying to obligate Apollo to come down*)

"Y-yeah," Apollo said somewhat confidently. He tilted his head. "What's it like always being in the water? And whatcha doing on land, anyways?" He shuffled his four wings, the soft scales ruffling in the cold wind.

Varun coiled his body up some, getting more comfortable. "It's fantastic in the water! You are so unlimited, so free, compared to being on the ground, or the air in which you battle the wind. I suppose you would never last long in the deep, though," he mused. "I am on land now because I have never been in this forest. I want to explore," he replied simply, giving a small smile.

Apollo paced slightly on the branch. "I've never been here either, in fact I don't know how I got here. I know I'm definitely, quite, very Fahr. (Which is actually not a typo, just lore hehe) I may explore a bit, but I do want to see home again... Though maybe..." He paced more on the branch, head tilted so far it was almost sideways on his neck. "I could find something and they'd believe me!"

"Something to make them believe you actually came here?" Varun tipped his head more, curious to hear the critter's explanation. Suddenly, he felt the presence of being watched. The serpent scanned the snowy landscape around them but didn't spot anyone or anything. //Strange...// Still wary, he returned his gaze to Apollo.

(Varun is a Water Elemental, so he has a sort of connection with all bodies of water. Something stepping on snow, and thus melting it into water, might possibly disturb his senses, although vaguely.)

(Gotcha! Luckily for her, Varun's sight is pretty awful at day. He won't even notice her unless he shifts to his human form.)

Varun conversed with the moth owl for a while longer, but because he could not convince it to come down, he eventually said his farewells as began to slither away--coincidentally in Shadow's direction.

Through the trees, Varun could see a rough, rocky incline blocking his path. //I'll have to shift to climb that,// he deducted. The serpent's form suddenly began shrinking and changing color until in its place stood a teenaged boy, perhaps seventeen. He had short, blonde hair, except for the single long braid than ran down his back. Despite the freezing climate, he wore nothing but a t-shirt and shorts. "Oh geez, that is freezing!" Varun gasped, hugging himself immediately. He hurriedly continued forward, unknowingly closing in on Shadow.

(Might as well make their sizes a little more even)

Worried about getting snow in his boots, Varun walked carefully with his eyes on the ground, completely unaware of the figure in front of him. It was only when he was an inch away that he looked up, finding himself face-to-face with a pair of piercing eyes against dark covers. Heart leaping out of his chest, Varun screamed and toppled backwards into the snow. "What the--!?!"

Gasping for breath, Varun looked to where Shadow had been standing, but he could no longer see her. He chose to remain on the ground and glanced around from there. "Hello?" //Did I just imagine that person?//

"Hello?" Varun repeatedly faintly, although he figured by then that he wouldn't get an answer. "Who knew the cold could make you hallucinate?" he mumbled aloud as he sat up, then slowly got to his feet. //I swear, that was a person in front of me...//

Varun looked about nervously for a moment longer, then finally took a step forward and continued. His hand ever so lightly brushed against Shadow's cloak a he passed her, so subtly that he failed to notice.

(Ahh gotcha!)

Varun would have dismissed what he just felt as another hallucination, but he still shuddered, and not just from the cold. //Whatever I touched felt smooth and warm... This isn't right at all.// Finally, he stopped and turned around. "I know you're there! Show yourself!!" he shouted. //I'm probably going crazy now...//

Varun knew how ridiculous he was being, but he couldn't drop it now. "Hey! Say something!" he shouted into the wind. "This isn't funny!" Hands now in fists, Varun stalked the way he had coming, searching for a sign of a person or other creature.

When Shadow spoke, a shudder ran from Varun's neck to his feet. "H...Hello?" he practically whispered, slowly and stiffly turning to survey the forest. //This is why I don't go inland.....//

"If you mean me no harm, show yourself," Varun said hesitantly.

Varun's face flushed. //So I did touch somebody... And they could've killed me so easily...// "Well... At least show me what you look like!" he commanded, although anxiously.

//C'mon dude, chill,// he told himself. //It's probably doing all this for intimidation factor. It's probably just some camouflaging tree-dweller.// Regaining some of his confidence, the shifter crossed his arms and surveyed his surroundings again, failing to take note of the nearby dark shadows and the refugee within. "Stop repeating yourself and just show yourself. Is it that hard, or are you hiding because you're ugly?"

At her question, Varun hesitated. //That can't be good... Remember, they're just deceiving me!// "What's there to be scared of? Come out already," the teen affirmed.

The weapon flew by so fast Varun didn't even have time to gasp. Once it retreated, he daggers backwards wit his hands up in a defensive posture. "You said you meant me no harm!" he snapped, eyes darting.

He still felt the sting of the weapon when it brushed his nose, but her words rang true. "No," he said slowly. "But I asked you to do one thing and you do what instead? Threaten me with... a weapon? Who do you think you are, a god?" he challenged. He knew his temper was growing shorter, but he didn't have the patience to maintain it.

Varun blinked, then looked away, feeling shameful. "Sorry, I was just curious about who you were." He hid his hands in his pockets.

Varun pulled out one hand and rubbed his shoulder as he spoke. "Ever since I left home, I've been living in an island village. Typically, since it's on an island, I see the same people every day. Those there who share my age are more interested in sports and games. I'm not like that. I like reading and learning. Science, history, and the sort. That's why I found interest in your abilities, and the way you talk. It sounded like you were... like me."

He could hardly keep his eyes on Shadow, and each red trail he set his eyes on vanished a second later. But there was still one that rushed toward him. Without even thinking it through, Varun conjured an image of motion in his head of something blocking its path. At once, water leaped up from the ground and splashed in front of the creature, creating a barrier it and himself.

Varun gasped when his second attempt failed yet again. He backed away more, shouting, "Shadow! Can you do something about this?"

Varun stared into the silence for a while, waiting for something else to come out. Then he considered what had just been said. "What??"

Still unnerved from the skirmish, Varun jolted when the fire appeared before him. After regaining himself, he shook his head slowly, bewildered and annoyed. "I don't even know what I've gotten myself into. I must have hallucinated this all." A voice interest back of his head tempted him to stomp off and pretend none of it ever happened.

Varun watched the flame move away, then finally pivoted and headed another direction. He tried to swallow back the remorse as he hugged his shivering torso. //I just need some time alone, is all. It's not like I hurt her - she's hardly human, apparently.// Still, the guilt followed him as he wandered back into the forest.
