Lightning Flashed and I took a deep sigh fogging up the window. Trailblazer sat quietly next to me, I could feel him drifting away as the truck drove soundly on Highway 390. I found it rather strange that we went to new york to sell our furs that we had caught. There were plenty of trading posts in that would of accepted our things. Nether the less I loved road trips, it's interesting to see all the fun and buildings trees. But I was happy we were heading home, it was already pretty late as it is. And no hotels would accept pets out around here.
Trailblazer got up and shifted his position again, yawning and stretching all the same. I did the same but thunder flash as my readjustments occurd, so jumping back quickly I pressed my body against the seat.
Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to drive out 8:00 at night on the highway in a thick storm. I shook my head //we'll be fine, it's unlikely that we'll crash// Never have I regreted such a thought

Aki was frozen her eyes filled with shock. They had crashed and the person behind the wheel got the worst of it. Trailblazers leg was caught on some luggage and he yelped, calling his partner to wake up. "AKI! Get up, it'll be alright." Trail tried to reassurance, but there was still a hint of fear and confusion in his voice

Liola stood, the smell of smoke filled her nose, she didn't know what to do other than stand or run to it's source. She started to pace but then made up her mind to explore the wreck.

A sudden sound had jolted Twig awake. She stood for a moment, breathing heavily, before peering out of her nest. Everything seemed quiet, but the smell of smoke eventually caught her attention. Leaving her nest behind, she made her way towards the smell, not knowing what to expect.

Skree soared clumsily through the pouring rain, an obvious scowl at the corners of her beak. "Stupid weather and stupid darkness... How am I supposed to tell where I am?"
The red-tailed hawk flicked one wing, sending off a shower of water. "My wings feel so heavy--I can't fly like this!"

After walking around avoiding flash floods (brah) all day, Rufus was just about to lay down to sleep when he heard a crash in the distance. "I wonder what that could've been?" he wondered aloud, pricking his ears. //Whatever that is, it smells awful. I might as well go check it out.// he thought, walking quickly towards the source of the scent.

Aft's ears pricked forward and all his muscles tensed up, eyes narrowing. The canine slowly bent his head down and picked up the end of his fake sister's bracelet-like string of cloth in his mouth, jaws grinding and making small tears in the starry fabric. It was just long enough that he could stand up straight and tall and not drag her paw off the ground. Aft nodded and Zul immediately began to walk forward in near perfect sync with him–but only near perfect, as her legs were already stumbling. Her muzzle wrinkled as a familiar sickly smell engulfed her and she nearly stepped back, a small whine escaping her throat.
"Come on, Zu', can't be that bad. We're far from there. No 'coon's gonna attack you, no fire's gonna burn you. Alright?" Aft looked his companion straight in her blue eyes, trying not to take notice of the shadows underneath them. "Let's just go and see if they need help. We got this. We made it this far."
"You're right," Zul mumbled, and followed after him with her scarred ear flat against her neck.

Trailblazer shook his leg. "It hurts, but I can deal." He breathed, "Trail, I have a feeling that more animals are encroaching on us." Lightning flashed as she spoke. "Do you think the rumors are true?"

Twig could see it now, the totalled car, the thick smoke. Through all of it she could make out the shapes of other creatures approaching. Twig watched silently for a moment before finally taking a few more steps toward the car.

As Liola trotted towards the mess of metal and tree, her nose wrinkled in disgust. Until she noticed that there were two other scents. They were faint, but she could smell them. She made her way carefully towards the crash site, making sure not to step on something sharp.

Wolfridge, quietly followed the cougar, downwind of her. The he smelled the wreckage, //Why would she go there?// Then it hit him, the smell of course, you'd think I'd make a dumb pun would you?
//Is she trying to find lunch in those two animals!? The monster!// He followed her with more urgency now.

Skree squawked in alarm when lightning crashed overhead, making her feathers stand on end. "Argh, I gotta land! But how? It's too dark to see!" With her daytime vision, the hawk could only see the dark silhouettes of trees beneath her, until a bright light passed her vision. "Light! Light!" Skree yelped. She immediately tipped her wings and raced toward it, only to find the wreck of a human vehicle, its headlights on but body smoking. She veered away with a discontented shree. "Yuck! Don't wanna be near that!"

Rufe made his way towards the place with the horrible smell, looking around so that he didn't bump into other animals as he walked. Once he could see the crash site he ducked behind a tree and peered around it to see the animals gathering slowly around the car.

(I don't think we new to be strict about order until characters actually start interacting. But that's just my opinion.)

Aft walked carefully, expertly predicting the rather unpredictable walking patterns of Zul as he held the end of the cloth tight in his mouth. His nose twitched with the scents of animals all around and he knew it would take some convincing to get Zul to stay, though if he could keep the cloth with him it would he impossible for her to run. The scent of gas and smoke made him dizzy but his eyes kept attentive around him.
Meanwhile, Zul was panting and whining softly, tripping over this and that, scolding herself for doing so when she had all this time to learn how to avoid these stupid sticks, and so on. She thought she caught the sight of a bobcat and stuck closer to her brother.

Aki said in worry, "Just stay, and try to figure out how to get a distress call out." He hopped out of the vehicle limping up on his back leg. "A bird?" He exclaimed out loud, as Aki waited in the vehicle pawing at a phone.

Rufus stayed behind the tree, shaking slightly and trying to stay out of sight. He realized much too late that his red fur stood out against the dark forest behind him and tried unsuccessfully to hide himself with bushes.

Zul's ear perked up slightly when she heard voices and bushes rustling, though Aft seemed too focused on being sneaky to notice. The duo snuck up to the car, only a line of bushes hiding them from the wreckage. Zul looked up and just barely saw a hawk hovering above and her legs shook. Aft leaned against her to try and calm her but she only shook harder, not exactly enjoying the very smoke-filled situation.

Twig stumbled back as a bird swooped right by her head. She glanced around, seeing how the animals had all drawn closer to the wreck. Fear rippled through her as she realized she was one of the smallest ones among them. She stood frozen by the car, hoping to remain unnoticed.

Trailblazer attention was on scree but he caught the scent of wild cats. His eyes twitched, //Cougar? bobcat? My job, yes I chase those guys.// He was about to howl, but the sudden sound of glass breaking and a cry of pain him snap out of his trance. "Aki what did you do?" He asked as the sounds came from the vehicle. "I had to make distressing noises, because who the heck is going to pay attention to their dog barking?" Aki stepped out of truck, "Now we just wait and hope that they'll arrive."

Trailblazer let out a deep low growl and it followed into a loud bark. Aki almost followed in here deep drive to go after the cougar, but stop herself. "Trail cut it out, it's not like the cat is on someone's ranch."

Twig jumped at the sound of the glass shattering. she took a few steps toward the car door, then crouched behind some debris. The fear began to fade from her as she listened to the conversation, //These animals are trying to help...// she realized.

Rufe watched various animals go up to the car and decided that since nobody was dying immediately, it was safe enough to join them. Shaking himself, he began approaching the car again, trying to be sneaky.

(Hey Day, well I need a ref, and no powers please, a chicken is fine. The animals in this universe are all basically like irl ones. Just that can talk and they are sophisticated, e.g they have government and stuff.
The only thing that would make a character go wacky is the out of control aggressive rabies virus, and it is only in effect for mammals.)

Finally, Skree chose to land on top of a nearby pine tree and eyed the scene from there. //Wonder if they'll sit here till they die,// she wondered sarcastically as she fanned out her soaked feathers.

"Yes, infected you may say, and it's not the lynx hiding behind the tree." Trailblazer brought his nose to the ground then back up again, he walked until he came around the car. "Ahah! Wait a minute you're not the smell." He looked bewildered when be found twig under the car. "What are you doing there?"

Aki swallowed when they both spoke of the foul smell. "Wait, how many animals are here, are there more of you?" She shouted towards the tree that the lynx was behind.

Liola tensed when he confirmed infected, her tail started to swish. She tried to hide her fear by cleaning. She hoped the rain and smoke would also cover her scent of fear.

Then she looked at Twig and had the look of "boi, vvtf?"

Twig glanced right up at him, “I want to help you.” She said, her voice shaking. She quickly pulled herself out from where she hid.

(Alright, I just retyped it.)

"You do? Well I don't think you'll get much done from under there." He backed to give her room, "Do you smell that? Where is it coming from?" He asked mentioning the rotting smell again, he pawed at his to try to get a better scent.

Wolfrick stepped forward when Aki yelled, "I'm here, as is a bobcat," he sniffed the air, the foul smell entering his nose. "There's something out there."

Liola shuddered, at the mention of infected, and rolled her eyes when she realized it was Wolfrick.

Skree's frame went rigid when she overheard Wolfrick's statement. //Something else out there? Definitely not me.// She stayed perfectly still on her perch, hoping they wouldn't see her in the dark.

“Thanks.” Twig said. She quickly sat down, visibly nervous and uncomfortable. Never had she been near so many other animals.

(I just realized that since Wolfy has ptsd, and if he looked at Skrees shadow, he would hink she's a sniper and freak out X'D )

Some bushes shifted, Traill backup to where Aki and Liola were "If there are four other animals here, who is the fith?" Trailblazer asked
Aki was silent and swallowed down her whimper.

Liola rapidly spun around keeping her eyes on the trees, her ears swiveling, trying to pick up anything. She opened her mouth to scent where the awful stench came from.

Wolfrick sat there //I've never seen her so panicked before..//

If it were possible, Skree made herself even more still. //Look away look away look a--// Just then, lightning flashed through the sky, followed immediately by a thunderous boom, which made Skree jolt in surprise. She unraveled her wings to catch her balance, revealing her position.

As the lighting flashed both Trail and Aki looked up. "That's not it." They both said simultaneously, suddenly from out of the bushes came two animals. One was a coyote with milky eyes, drool dripped from it's mouth the other- was a red squirrel.
"What the heck? Now?" Exclaimed Trailblazer, for the sounds of a Siren started creeping towards them. "What do we do? We can't let these animals bite them." Aki started shifting her feet nervously

I dunno, I do have to get going soon though ;-;)

Skree released a sigh of relief when the focus turned on the two rabid creatures who emerged from the forest. //Phew, they didn't notice me.// She tucked her wings on her back again. //Well, either way, they're probably gonna die. Yeesh, those two critters have a nasty look in their eyes.//

"We run." Liola said, her eyes wide with fear. Wolfrick was trembling due to the lightning and the shadow he saw, he didn't even notice the squirrel and coyote. Liola yelled in his ear " WAKE UP SLEEPY HEAD OR YOU'RE GONNA DIE!! We need to distract the infected to save the Upwalkers, you dogs may need to leave your owner if you want all of you to survive."

Twig stayed silent, her eyes darting to the two rabid creatures then back to the others. She braced herself, and waited to see what they would decide to do.

"Exactly what I was thinking." Trailblazer turned his head. "As much as I don't like it, it's the only possible way we'll be able to save his life." He stepped over to Aki and pushed her. "So move now! Action right here right now, moutning later!" The hunting dog shouted. "But" Aki protested as the sound came closer. "MOVE!" Trail yelled, then both dogs darted into the woods. The coyote snarled and more coyotes emerged from the bushes, pursueing each member of the group.
The squirrle however started to clime the tree Scree was in.
(You each get a rabbid animal to control in this scene, since we're basically ending it off here, just describe your character running away or something.)

Liola ran as fast as her legs could go, while coyote was behind. Wolfrick was running beside her, having a harder time to keep up. He had a coyote chasing him too. They bolted into the forest.

Skree thought she was safe--until the red squirrel began to scrabble up her tree. "Wait wait wait--AHH!" With a squawk, the hawk spread her wings and took off rapidly, quickly escaping the rabid rodent's reach. "Everyone is crazy!" she screeched as she retreated.

Twig watched with her eyes wide, as the others rushed off. Twig darted off in the opposite direction. A coyote crashed through some bushes beside her, its gaping jaws barely missing her. She dug her claws into a nearby tree, clawing her way up to a high up branch. The coyote ran around it and desperately tried to make its way up. Twig stared at it for a good moment and caught her breath before jumping to the next tree. (I gotta go, see ya next time!)

The two sprinted and Aki turned to see the truck on last time, looking past the two rabid animals. //When will we meet up again?// Her dreary thought corroded her eyes with tears. The canine jerked her head and continued on, the sounds and light of the siren started to down. Trailblazer was behind her, managing to keep up, even with that injured leg.
