Shadow beings are created when BlackMist (and after his death, Shadow)Kills them and uses a spell only they know on the soulless body to revive their spirit (souls power the body, spirits give life and conscience.)

All broken bones are reformed in a purple colour and their stomach deforms and goes purple. this stomach turns souls to energy

Shadows have no soul, so they eat souls to keep their body fueled.

Shadow's flesh slowly decayed before he learnt how to stop the decaying with bandages and a simple spell.

However shadows cannot heal the wounds they got from dying. So he's stuck with a hole through his chest.
