water is thought to be an effective treatment because it can be heated or cooled to different tempretures, which, when applied to the skin can produce different reactions throughout the body. one of the main benefits to hydrotherapy is that it is fast to take effect.
1. Bath area: warm continous baths are used for treating paitents with insomnia, those with sui.cidal tendencies and calmed those with excited/agitated behaviour.
2. Pool area: used to treat paitents who lack muscle strength and Suffer from arthritis.
3.Sprays function like showers, and use either warm or cold water. Cold water is was to treat patients diagnosed with manic-depressive psychoses, and those showing signs of "excitement and increased motor activity." Application of cold water slows down blood flow to the brain, decreasing mental and physical activity. The temperature for a cold pack ranges between 48°F and 70°F.
4. Similar to the baths, however these are hot tubs used to calm down paitents feeling depressed or stressed
Of course, this method of therapy is NOT suitable for those with hydrophobia!!
Exposing a paitents with hydrophobia heavy amounts of water will only make their phobia worse and likely will cause an extreme anxiety attack.
