Backstory: IV

POV: Patricia Maggie Rossi, 800+ years, 4', 69 lbs

I sat alone in a park, watching as the other vampires began leave. The sun peeked just over the horizon, turning the sky into a soft grey color. It was only 6 AM, but the lively playground already trickled away into a barren, plastic wasteland. When I glanced over to the field, I noticed a small figure heading towards me.

At first, I thought it may have been a young wizard coming to train in the early morning. However, as he got closer, his greyish skin and black hair screamed "vampire". He did look a little odd, but vampires are so diverse that I couldn't judge him.

Excited to meet someone new, I jumped up and brushed my dress off. Sneakily, I hid behind part of the play set, and watched him as he approached. Once he was several meters away from me, I bolted up to him. "Hi, cutie~!" I exclaimed loudly.

His eyes widened, then he lowered his gaze and blushed awkwardly. "Oh..."

"Oh?" I tilted my head. That's not a response that I've ever gotten when jumping in front of someone like that.

"Sorry, I didn't realize..."

"Realize what??" Why isn't he making any sense? What a weirdo! I scanned him up and down. His hands, that were up in a defensive way, immediately caught my attention. Only one hand had thick, black claws. The other had normal fingernails. Curious, I asked him about them. "What happened to your claws?"

He looked at my face, allowing me to peer into his cold, empty eyes. He responded after a moment of awkward silence. "They're supposed to be like that. I'm right handed, so my claws can only grow properly on my left hand..." I watched as the boy put his hands down, out of sight. My face was only a few inches from his, so he took a step back.

"That's.... Pretty weird," I stated. He seemed uncomfortable talking about himself, so I changed the subject. "I'm Patty, what's your name~?"

"..." He paused for a moment, then furrowed his eyebrows. "Do you really expect me to answer that?"

Wow, rude. I puffed up my cheeks and put my index finger up. "Yes, I do. Don't be a jerk and just tell me your name!"

"Patty, you're in my way. Please let me into the park. I'm hungry..." He pushed me to the side, but I stopped him.

"Wait, you can't be serious. It's illegal to feast off of humans after 6 AM! Everyone knows that." I put my hands on my hips and levitated a few inches off the ground so that I was taller than him. My height is so embarrassingly short.

"I'm not here to suck blood, I want to watch it spill... Move." His purple eyes glared, but behind the angry expression, I saw sadness.

"You're not killing anyone! What's wrong with you?!" My eyes turned red as he grabbed my chin and pulled my face next to his. He did this so fast that I didn't have time to react as he sunk his teeth into my flesh. I squealed and tried to pry him off, but he held me down. The sensation was so weird and hurt so much.

It felt like I was being bitten by a dog and a snake at the same time. As far as I could tell, four teeth were sunken into my flesh. I felt the area tense and release constantly, the strange throbbing making me feel sick. It must have only been a couple minutes of my blood being sucked, but felt like ages.

He wrapped an arm around my waist, signaling that he was going to stop. Once he lifted his head, he looked at me. "I told you to get out of my way. Why didn't you listen?"

His voice was stern, but I still saw cloudiness in his eyes. I could tell that guilt swept over him after what he did. Ignoring the pain from the bite, I grabbed him and hugged him tightly.

The boy's eyes widened at my touch, and he put his hands on my back. At first, I thought he was going to try hurting me, but instead, he returned the hug. He pressed his chin over my shoulder, and his body trembled. Soon, I felt wet tears begin to run down my back. "I'm sorry, I'm so, so, sorry. I'm a mistake. I should have never been born." Hearing this broke my heart. He whimpered a little and kept saying similar things to that under his breath.

"It's okay... Everything is okay." I gently rocked back and forth and ran my fingers through his silky hair. I pushed my lips towards his ear and spoke softly, "Don't ever tell yourself that you're a mistake." He had to have been holding onto me for a good ten minutes before letting go.

When I lighten my gaze, I saw that his face was dark from all of the blood that had rushed up to it. Wiping his eyes with his sleeve, he looked into my eyes. "I'm going to go home. You should go, too."

"Wait, before you leave, you never gave me your name." I grabbed one of his hands and looked up at him.

"I doubt we'll see each other again. Why do you want it?"

"Because I-"

Without letting me finish, he hugged me once more. "It's Sebast- I mean Asher. It's Asher." He stuttered, and changed the name in the middle of the sentence. Big wings grew from his back, and Immediately, he flew off with an embarrassed expression.

"Sebastian..." I said quietly to myself. I went to touch the wound on my shoulder, but when I put my fingers down, I noticed the wound was gone.

This is the end of the first encounter Asher had with Patty! It was definitely a little awkward for both of them, but it gives a little insight as to why he opened up to her in the first place.

In this story, he's about 10 (200 years old) so it takes place 40 years after the previous three chapters.
