Samuel leaned against the same tree, watching to make sure no one could see or hear them talking.

"Yeah." He responded, keeping his voice down just in case. "I've been able to, since I was a little kid. It's kind of crazy, really. That we met, and that we happen to have the same exact ability."

"What about you?"

(Intruding! Re: Thank you! I placed third for my division, so I'm pretty satisfied. ^-^)

Sam sat down next to her, he assumed it would be easier to talk quietly if they were closer to eachother. "Really? I accidentally found out, I wasn't told about it." He said, pushing a strand of hair out of his face. "I wish I was told, it sucked at first."

Sam glanced over at Evy, "Do your parents know you can shift?"

"Wow." Samuel said, looking back at his feet. "My parents don't know, I hope they never will. You and my sister are the only ones who know." He turned his attention back to Evy.

"Really? That's cool. Is it some sort of cat?" Sam asked. "Is that your animal, a cat?"

"A lioness, that's awesome!" Samuel said, grinning. "I like lions, I always see them on tv."

//Oh dang, that's a good animal. Mine's whimpy compared to hers...//

"Hmm, that's weird. I wonder if there's a way to know if someone's a shifter by looking at them." Sam said, staring at the ground as he thought. "I doubt it, I look like every scrawny dork my age. But... I hope not."

Sam blushed in embarrassment at her question, he wasn't very proud of his animal. "A vulture-" He mumbled, "-a Bearded Vulture to be exact..."

(Is this a new ship? eue)

Samuel smiled at her remark, he did enjoy flying. Although his smile faded at the last thing she had said. "Why? Do you... do you not like it here?"

Sam listened to her every word, studying her expressions. He moved closer to her, pushing hair out of his face again. "Yeah, of course."

Sam rested his hand on Evy's shoulder, looking at her. "What do you think happened to him? Did he have any enemies? No one just dies from heart failure without any past problems... He knew about your ability, maybe that has to do with it..."

Samuel quickly took his hand off of her shoulder, looking away again. "I- I'm sorry, I'm probably being disrespectful to you and your father."

(Just a heads up, I'm going to go out for a little bit. So if my replies are slow at some times, it's because of my cell service. I can still rp though.)

"Yeah, it's strange. Maybe there are others out there like us, I mean there's us, so maybe there's more? Maybe we can find out what happened to your dad, it's so odd that he knew about your ability before you did. I just-" Sam paused, lost in his own thoughts.

"I just want to know why we have these abilities..."

"I always do." Samuel said, frowning. "I think a little too much, really. Sometimes I wish I didn't have the ability, that I'd wake up one day and it'd be gone." He sighed, fiddling his hands.

"You don't know how much of a relief it is to meet someone like me. I don't- I don't feel lonely anymore."

"You don't?" Sam asked, listening to Evy speak. "Does it hurt when you do it?" He paused again, thinking. "I mean- does it hurt when you shift?"

"As much as I want to hate it, I can't. There's something different about being an animal, like all your worries disappear. But that's just me."

"What?" Sam asked tilting his head at Evy. "You can tell me, I don't mind. Friends are supposed to keep secrets, right?"

"You're scared because you don't want people to know, because you think they'll fear you, that they'll see you as a freak. Not a person." Samuel said. He looked at Evy softly. "I'm scared too. I've always been scared."

"Then don't." Samuel said softly. "Then you won't be scared. You can't be scared of something if you don't think about it."

"Yeah, that's what I think whenever I start to think about it. But it is serious, it's not one of those 'what if' scenarios. But-" Sam sighed as well. "Let's just not talk about it then. The festival's supposed to be a fun place to escape from your worries, not contemplate them."

"Hell yeah, I love Ferris Wheels." Sam responded with excitement.

Samuel walked alongside Evy, kicking rocks across the ground as they made their way to the Ferris Wheel. "I wonder how much it is, do you think we have to buy tickets or something?"

"Okay, if you insist." Sam said, grinning. "I think you pay over there." He pointed to a small booth in front of the ride.

Sam waited for Evy before heading towards the Ferris Wheel entrance. He watched the wheel for a moment, curious how the view of the festival would look from that high up. "Ladies first!" He said, grinning as they got closer to the enterance.

(To be honest, I have no idea xD)

Samuel sat next to Evy, looking down at the seat. "I wonder is there a seatbelt or something? If this thing moves too quickly, we'll topple right out."

"I suppose so, like a not-so-rollercoaster rollercoaster. I-if that makes sense." Sam responded. "And why do we have to wait till we get to the top?" He began to lightly kick the inside of the cart, causing it to rock back and forth. "Oooh nooooo, I think we might fallllll!" Sam said, laughing.

"Okay, fine." Sam said between laughs. He grabbed the sides of the cart as well, to stop the shaking. "So..." He said, trying to make conversation. "How are you?"

"That's wonderful, I can say the same." Samuel said, looking at the view from their cart. "My life is sort of boring. Every day's the same, a carbon copy of the last." He pushed a strand of hair from his face again. "Get up, eat breakfast, make furniture, eat dinner, bed, repeat."

"Yeah..." Sam said, admiring the view still. "Does your mother own a business or something? Or does she work in the magnet mines? I know a lot of people work there, my father does."

"Oh, that's wonderful! It's good to hear that she's doing well." Sam smiled. "I'm from New Accra, our furniture company isn't doing the best right now. Well, it hasn't been doing well since my father left for the mines. He barely is ever home, only coming back to sleep. My mother isn't the best manager, and we're the only ones working. And my sister's medicine is incredibly expensive, my mother is thinking of just..." His voice gave out for a moment, he looked away from Evy once more. "Just cutting off her treatment. She'll die, but she won't be suffering anymore."

Samuel listened to what Evy had said, smiling slightly. "As cheesy as it sounds," He turned to look at her. "I just need someone to talk to. It's just-" Sam hesitated, fumbling with his hands. "I don't know, maybe it's for the best. She's never going to be able to be cured, why should she keep on suffering? I feel selfish for wanting her to keep on living, it might as well be my fault that my family's poor."

"I'm sorry, now I'm the one making everything depressing."

"Thanks." Sam said wiping some tears from his eyes. "I'm sorry, I'm being a baby. I just don't know what to do, and I'm going against my code. The festival's supposed to be a happy place where your worries and fears go away, but I can't help it. So many things to worry about."

"Thanks, Evy." Sam said, letting out a small sigh. He looked down below at the ground, their cart was getting close to the top. "The view sure is beautiful up here, everyone looks like ants."

"Same." Sam said, whispering as well. "Why are you talking so quietly? Was I not supposed to hear that? Because I did..." He finished, giggling a little bit. "It's so strange yet amazing how they're able to keep them floating. I never really thought about it, I guess. How cool it looks."

"I'd like to as well, these islands get boring quickly. If you ever want to go exploring and need a partner in crime, I'm available." Sam joked. "But I'm pretty sure it's against the law, I wonder why. That makes it so much interesting."

He stopped for a minute, grinning. "Hey Evy, guess where we are...." Before she could even answer, he began to shake the cart again as she leaned forward. "The top!"

"Well, you said it would be fun." Sam said, giggling. "Are you having fun?"

"Yeah." Sam said, looking back at the venue from the cart. "Yes I am."

Seeing that the cart was moving down again, Sam turned back to Evy. "What do you want to do now? I have no idea what time it is, I didn't bring a watch with me."

(Feel free to tell me if you don't want to rp anymore, we've been doing it for a while now. But I'm totally alright with continuing, this is all I really have to do right now xD )

"I guess so, I wonder how long this place stays open for." Sam said, looking up at the sky, frowning a little. As the cart stopped, he stepped out and outstretched his arm to help Evy get out as well.

"Ah, thank you!" Sam said, grinning. He slipped the little peice of paper into his back pocket, where the rest of his money was.

Samuel looked at her for a moment, studying her face one last time. He outstretched his hand for a hand shake, the only thing he could think of doing. "Hey," he said. "Thanks for letting me hang around with you today, I really enjoyed it. You're-" Sam hesitated for a moment. "You're a pretty cool person, Evy."

Sam smiled at her. "Well then," he said. "Let's make sure that doesn't happen. You have me your number and I'm going to use it. What kind of guy would I be to not call a pretty girl?" He joked.

"I will see you around though, right?"

"I won't." Sam said, grinning. "Well, till next time, I suppose! I hope you'll be able to find your mother."

He began to walk away, turning to wave back at Evy one last time before continuing on his way.
