Three young Vunreks, against their parents' instructions, sneak into a place they weren't meant to see until they're much older. It's a huge, round room, dimly lit, with carvings etched into the walls.

"So why won't the grown ups let us in here until we're bigger? There's nothing in here except some carvings!" the young Comet Variant tries to whisper, feeling disapointed in their discovery.

"It's the history room, Cinder..." a nervous Blinding Variant boy tells her, "The first Vunreks made these rooms in different places, so we wouldn't forget. See, over here on the left is a carving of the Keeper..."

The smaller Chemist girl looks around the whole room in awe and curiousity, but one carving, at the far end of the room, catches her eye. "Zizi! Cinder! Look at this one! It looks like a Vunrek, but its wings are all funny. Do you know what this is?"

Cinder runs over to the carving, while Zizi walks over slowly, his tail curled around his legs. Looking up at the carving... he knows who it is...

"Uuuhhh, up at the top, it says 'Deviljaw,' Nyu... but I've never heard of him," Cinder says, narrowing her eyes at the strange carving.

Nyu perks up when Cinder says the name, and squeaks a little, "It's the Deviljaw? Oh, my granmaw told me about him! She said he's a really, really big Savage that fights with Yurei a lot, and he hurts other people too, but that's why the brave Vunreks joined together to become the Defenders, to keep us safe! Oh, and he's really old, too!"

"No, no, no, you've got it all wrong!" Zizi suddenly exclaims, shivering, "The Deviljaw isn't even a Vunrek, he's a monster from another world that looks like one of us to trick us! He's bigger than a mountain a-and has mind control magic, and he can eat Vunreks whole! H-he's the reason why Yurei is the only Moonlight Variant, b-because he ate all the others!!"

Nyu yelps in fright and looks at her Blinding Variant friend, "R-really!? My granmaw didn't tell me that!"

"I-it's true," Zizi whimpers, keeping his head low to the ground, "A-and he can turn into a shadow on the wall, and hear you no matter where you are--"

"HA!" Cinder laughs, then laughs some more. "That's ridiculous! I bet you're /both/ wrong, and the Deviljaw isn't even real! It's probably just a story meant to make us behave, I've been to other planets, and they do that there, the grown ups tell their spawn some crazy stories so they don't have any fun." The Comet thinks for a moment, then opens her mouth enough to imply a grin, and continues, "... Oh, so he can hear us? HEY, UGLYJAW! GET YOUR FAT REAR-END OVER HERE! I'M NOT SCARED OF YOU! I BET YOU'RE SO OLD AND UGLY AND FAT THAT I COULD BEAT YOU MYSELF!!"

Zizi looks like he's about to have a heartattack. "CINDER!! What're you doing!?!?"

"I'm trying to see if the Deviljaw will come, so we can see who's right, silly!" Cinder replies, laughing a little as she sits down and waits for the Deviljaw to prove her right.

"I-I'm getting out of here!" Zizi nearly screams, running for the exit.

Nyu follows after him, not quite as paranoid. "Zizi, wait up!!"

Cinder rolls her eyes and gets up, following both of her frends. "You two are such scaredy-Vunreks, the Deviljaw's just a story!"

... But the truth has been lost in fairytales...
