Well... by sushisnatcher

To summarize, I just realized how flat and uninteresting all of my OCs are. They're not complex enough, and no one really likes them.
See, I've always been a fanartist for the majority of my life, and that's because making OCs isn't really my thing. It's never been a thing for years, and it probably never will be. I'm better at drawing Overwatch and Pokemon, than making a complex and likeable OC.
So, that comic I keep mentioning? It's not gonna happen, sorry.

wait Suzy!!
I've been making fanarts all my life as well, & as you can probably see, I only make original now, just like you.

Just because we made fanarts a lot doesn't mean we can't do original stuff!!
Your characters are great!!

Personally, when I make characters, I try to make them as complete as possible by making them a specific personality, but as well a detailled psychology & way of thinking. I then make them an individual story (Backstory I guess) for each so we know who they are & why they're like this for some. (this is why most of my characters have super long descriptions when I introduce them x'D)

Personally, I'd love to know more about your characters' origins & backstories! & if they don't have any, try to make some! I swear making individual stories for all your characters really help! It really build them to make them more comprehensive (& realistic I think).

Making flaws & limits to your characters are also really interesting, in my opinion. I believe that the more a character is realistic/well explained, the more interesting they are. But that's just how I work-

don't give up!! You made a whole universe!! Isn't it awesome?!

plz tell us more about your character I swear we love them. & I'd love to see that comic of yours.;w;

we all have ups & downs, especially for original I believe. Personally, until now, the characters I made were just silly ones that had no real stories & who were here just to make jokes. my first serious characters with a real story were created only last year! and boy their beginning selves were so flat & cringy as heck. But because I've worked a lot on them & build them with an individual story & a specific personality, they are much better now. (I think lol)

if you feel like your characters are "flat", think of why you think this & try to fix it.

But like I said before, I love your character & I don't think they're flat :o
But yeah I'd love to know more about them! Telling their story also help us to understand and even relate to them! ;w;

Sorry I talk to much dfundscdgxs. I just don't want you to give up because I love your characters aaa

Noooo don't give up!
Every writer has this problem at some point, they think their characters are too uninteresting. But you just got to work at it and get better. I used to think my characters were too boring but as I got better I started to love them :) The final product is worth it. I don't know a lot about your story but any story can be good with enough care put into it.
My best advice to improve is to read and watch a lot. Think about your favourite fictional characters, and what makes them good?
I recommend to make your characters better, make them have flaws. Flaws not as in like clumsiness, but sinful tragic flaws like wrath, etc. As for their good traits make sure they align with their backstory and their flaws. For example, one of my characters backstory is that he's always been in someone else's shadow. His flaw is that he's cowardly and doesn't trust himself with anything, because he thinks that person he looks up to is always right, and has always been told what to do. But then his positive trait corresponds with that, in that he trusts other people and naturally has high respect for them since his own self esteem is low.
Another tip is to make your characters have agency. Make them act on their situation, not react. This will be best on display during your inciting incident, but will carry on throughout the whole story. In the inciting incident, did your character go after the bad guys, or did the bad guys do something and the characters merely react to it?
Anyway sorry for long comment those are my best tips ;] Oh and don't be afraid to reinvent characters. Sometimes you just gotta can the bad ideas and start over. I've done it several times lol.

^ Pretty much what nya-nya said! Exactly what she said, actually.

Honestly, your characters have come a long way since the "antlers" pictures from a while ago. And heck, my own characters aren't much themselves. Well, maybe except for marcus and marissa, there's stuff for them I haven't yet posted... or drawn.

I'm still working on them, bit by bit, and you're working on your crew, bit by bit.
Takes a long time to get characters to a point of being really interesting. Characters in media were worked on for a long while.

And on here, @ShadowPikaboo's been working on her chars for idk how long lol.

nO OH NO

i just feel like you make too many characters and don't give details to other characters as much as you did on petra!! i love your series and yes it's not the best but i think it has great potential

then again, i don't wanna see you push yourself on this but please, you're not just a "fanartist"
