It's kinda hard to explain but sometimes the best way is to just not try at all, trying can make conversations feel too forced, sometimes random stuff happens and you find yourself talking to someone and getting to know them! One time I got to know two people really well while there was this fly in the classroom everyone was hitting the walls with their books trying to kill it while the teacher was out of the room and we just started talking-- weird stuff happens xD
Don't procrastinate ever it's a bad idea, also, be yourself. In my experience, joining theatre/drama is a good move, you meet cool people with cool hair and stuff also I made friends with a tall, lanky dude who plays accordion, so I mean, it's not so hard
I'm a severe introvert with social anxiety so I relate to this a lot! Do simple things, like decorate your binder or locker with something you like! A lot of times, people with similar interests will comment on it and want to be friends! Common ground makes a huge difference! Also, try not to bottle your stress! Talk to someone you trust about it as regularly as possible. I made some really poor choices during high school because I let my stress overwhelm me! Stress can cause physical problems as well, so doing everything you can to keep it under control is really important! I really hope high school turns out to be a good experience for you! <3 <3

uh let's see
i'll be a junior so i might have some advice
- don't walk slow
- be yourself, you'll eventally find friends that way
- do not try to fit in with the 'cool people'
- if people offend you for being a freshman, don't worry about them
they seem like they have all the power over the freshman and sophomores since they're lower than them
hope i helped, even just a little bit :0
