There are more Male Nightmare then there are females, this is because the curse was Place on a male first, and he was forged with fire of hate and Revenge.
The Pyro Nightmares​, hot to the touch.

 Frost Nightmares​, cold to the touch (there are more Females then male's)

Pyro and Frost's do not like each other, nightmares don't get along and anyway to territorial.

Ancient nightmares ones with barbs at the ends of their chains, they have the power to corrupt Others creatures with them, and foce the nightmare senor on Dreamers.

For a nightmare to make it to ancient status is very rare, they are usually killed before making it to that level by Malice himself because they threatened his territory and status of King.
