[Harudomerugu theme --- Monster Hunter Frontier G]
There'll be multiple color schemes for the Variants now, ignore the parts listing what color they are here. In other words, I need to get this updated X'P
There, my essay is done, even though it has a few typos here and there XD

(I've been busy, I'll start writing now 'XP )
The Vunreks were once simple wyverns, with a name long since forgotteb, they had no magic or even a natural fire breath and instead captured prey using their strength and size. A day came, however, when an alien from a distant planet, a collector of species, came. The alien captured some of the native wyverns and left, never to return to that prosperous planet. The grey wyverns lived in their own section of her great spaceship, and tried their best to carry on with their lives. Their alien abductor, whom the wyverns named "The Keeper," wasn't always the kindest, however, during her travels across the galaxies she would oftentimes take some of the creatures she had captured and pit them against each other in battle. To the Keeper's dismay, she found her wyverns had no special abilities, and as a result they were easily killed by the other monsters. (Cont)

For hundreds of years, the wyverns were allowed to reproduce and thrive, but a day came when the Keeper made a dreadful discovery--a barren, lifeless planet, covered in dust and rocks, that had crystals scattered all across its surface. Crystals that held a magic power unlike any she had found before... Curiousity seized her, and the alien simply had to know their effects on living organisms--and what better test subjects than the simple wyverns who held no power? (Cont)

Many wyverns died in the following experiments, so many, in fact, that their alien overlord had to slow the rate at which she was working on them, which aggravated her greatly. The wyverns who survived the initial experiments turned savage, only to die in their solitary confinement days later. Day after day of brutal experimentation slowly drove the Keeper mad, the wyverns and their crystals were keeping secrets from her, secrets that she craved...
When the first Vunrek was finally created, a beautiful silver beast with turquoise crystals lining its body, the Keeper was delighted. Having exauhsted her supply of the turquoise crystals, she then repeated this procedure on the rest of the wyverns until they had all become Vunreks. The crystal dragons resented the Keeper for what she had done to them and their ancestors, and naturally they began plotting ways to escape the dreadful ship. (Cont)

When the time was right, an unknown entity opened all doors on the ship, freeing not only the Vunreks, but all the other monstrous creatures the alien had captured as well. All the Vunreks escaped in the ensuing chaos, fleeing to the barren planet below, while the Keeper, furious at the betrayal, escaped in an emergency life pod, vowing to return for revenge.
(That's all the lore, now on to the details about the Variants. :p )

Vunreks themselves have an average lifespan of about 760 years, and they mature slowly.
Zero to fifty is considered a dragonet
Fifty to one hundred seventy-three would be considered a "teen."
One hundred seventy-three to three hundred fourty-two is considered mature
Three hundred fourty-two to five hundred eighty is considered elderly
Five hundred eighty to seven hundred sixty is considered ancient.

A Vunrek's age can be determined by how brightly their crystals glow, they dim with age, until they are almost entirely dark. When a Vunrek dies, its crystals shatter, and its body crumbles to dust.
When a Vunrek is born, its body is somewhat soft, and can take a few weeks to harden. They will continue to harden until the wyvern reaches old age, and the crystals become frail and easier to break.
The crystal in a Vunrek's tail acts as its heart, continually pumping magic throughout their body. Severing a Vunrek's tail or smashing the crystal would instantly kill it, although that is easier said than done. The only known material strong enough to pierce through a mature Vunrek's tail is the teeth of a Savage Vunrek.

Vunreks do not breathe nor eat, and they lack tongues making natural speech incredibly difficult. They have instead learned to communicate by telepathy, speaking directly to the minds of others.
All Vunreks have "orbs" that cover their eyes, almost like glass, that protects them from the sandstorms that often ravage their planet.
The gaps in their chests reveal the pulsing glow inside their hollow bodies, likely used to fool enemies into thinking it's a weak point, or a heart.
Deep inside the planet, in a cave with no light to guide your path, is an enormous crystal formation that the Vunreks refer to as the Mother Crystal. At the end of mating season, the females all gather here to lay there eggs near the giant turquoise crystal, believing that this location brings them healthy offspring. Had the Keeper discovered the Mother Crystal, she would've done some truly terrifying deeds...

{About the Variants}
29 May, 2017, 2:48 am
Moonlight Vunreks, born of the turquoise crystals, are considered the strongest, having regenerative abilities that allows them to heal quickly when exposed to moonlight. Time seems to mean nothing to these wyverns, as they never age, and seem nigh-eternal. Nevertheless, they can still be injured, even killed, and pain seems to affect this variation worse than the others. There is currently only one Holy Moonlight Vunrek known to exist, and while there is no royalty or novbility among the clans, all other Vunrek variations treat this one with respect... aside from the Savage Vunreks.
Your Moonlight Vunrek can send a wave of energy at his enemies using either his tail or the prominent horn on his forehead, but these wave attacks take a few seconds to charge.

(Thaank you, @BloodHybrid!)
The Comet Variant
These red and blue wyverns have unique wings that are able to shoot out fire. Comet Vunreks do not flap their wings to fly, and instead tuck their wings close to their sides, using them like rockets to reach up to 100 mph or more.
These Vunrek live in the highest of mountains on the planet, but spend most of their days flying around the outer limits of the atmosphere, sometimes even into space itself or nearby planets.

The Chemist Variant
These deep blue Vunreks control a different aspect of water according to their age, young Chemists breathe out a burning steam, mature Vunreks spit boiling water, elderly Chemists spit ice cold water, and ancient Vunreks breathe a freezing mist. These wyverns tend to be fond of science, however they limit themselves for fear of becoming like the Keeper.
These Vunreks live near frozen bodies of water on the surface, or underground lakes.

The Blinding Variant
This Variant is the only one known that can manipulate their glow to some extent, using it to either emit a bright flash of light to stun enemies or fool them into thinking they are weaker than they really are by dimming their light. They also have a lightning breath attack, a high pitched hissing noise is always made right before they use this.
These Vunreks wander across the surface of the planet, though they are drawn to storms.

The Metallic Variant
These Vunreks, instead of having cold, smooth, stone-like scales like the rest of their brethren Variants, have plates of solid metal covering their bodies. There are four Sub Variants, Iron, Copper, Silver, and Gold. They are too heavy to fly, and instead have thick claws on their "wings" that helps them dig through stone. Metallics have blades on their wings they may use as weapons, and each Sub Variant can magnetically control the respective metal in the environment.
Metallic Vunreks live deep underground, among lava and magma. They often work together with the Chemists to create new inventions. (Think of the Metallics almost like Dwarves.)

The Savage Vunreks
"Stress, no matter the species, has negative effects on the body. For some, it causes headaches and stomach pains, others might explode or melt under the trauma. Like the latter, these wyverns cannot bear the load, and become something else entirely." --- The Keeper
When a Vunrek is put under intense stress or has a strong fear of dying, to the point it would be willing to do anything tonescape death, it has an extremely high chance of turning Savage. When this happens, the pain, fear, and anxiety the Vunrek is suffering from causes its tail crystal to enter a state of panic, and it sacrifices both mind and body to prolong the Vunrek's life. Savage Vunreks act like beasts, driven by their self-preservation instinct and nothing else, they even lose their ability to speak by telepathy. Their bodies become stronger, but their crystals are incredibly frail, just scraping its tail against the ground is enough to chip off parts of the crystal.

Savages require magic energy from outside sources to survive, if they do not feed off of some magical substance, they can die in as little as one day. These corrupted wyverns are notorious for killing scores of their former brethren, often by tearing their teeth into the tail crystals of others and leeching off of their magic until the prey dies. Savages will immediately target a Holy Moonlight Variant, if they can sense one nearby, as a Moonlight's magic can never be fully drained. If allowed to, a Savage could feed off of a Moonlight's tail for hours, though it would be very painful for the silver wyvern.
There is, currently, no known cure for these poor Vunreks.
There are rumors that there is one Savage who devored so many Vunreks after he transformed that he still has some hold on his mind, and can speak, but instinct has twisted his mind into something dark and wicked.

I love this species so much, you've put a lot of thought into it! I didn't know somebody could combine a dragon with sci-fi and still make it lovable! (for me at least XD)
