"Why Cats Have Tails
By: Emma VerBsky (yes, it looks like a capital B)
One day, Kitty came up to Buddy and said, "Can I have a tail?"
Buddy thought and thought. Every other animal in the field came out.
Murphy, a big huge dog, laughed. "You want a big fat one?
Small thin one?
One like me?" Murphy showed his tail.
Sophie giggled. "That's tiny! What kind of big dog has a tail that size?" (Keep your dirty minds away kiddos)
Murphy became furious. "How dare you say that!" He barked. Then Bo said as quiet as he could, "I knew he would say that."
"Be quiet!" Murphy roared. Lucky started to shake. "What's the matter with ya? Ya little Chihuahua?" Said Murphy.
"I'm a collie you monster!" Said Lucky. "Calm down, Lucky!" Barked Oscar.
"Well he hurt my feelings!" Lucky Barked back. "So?" Said Oscar. "Really bad!" Said Lucky.

"A tornado is coming! Hurry and grab your small umbrella, and if you don’t have a red one, then add that to your shopping list. Next, get your towel, chair, sunblock and snack bar. Take any pets and put them in the doughnut box in the freezer, and if you don't have one, then add that to your shopping list as well. Go to the store and buy something, including the things on your list. Run outside and bring your supplies with you and go in front of your house where you get a nice view of the coming tornado. Set down your items, and sit back and relax as the tornado advances on you.

A canine about the size of a wolf sat on the cliff, watching the moonlight dance on the water and listening to the crickets chirp in time with the waves crashing against the walls of the land and on the shore, soft sand being pressed down against itself by the waters. The creature looked almost like a fluffy purple koi, blank lavender eyes unblinking as it watched the world. Its long ears were facing forward, never flicking back. It had a long, curling tail, holding a lantern. A purple flame floated in the black lantern, a small ball of fire that sent small dancing shadows on the grass and the wolf. The flame was its soul, burning until someone shattered the fragile lantern. The animal looked up at the clear night sky, tired of trying to focus on the swirling dots. Its eyes locked onto the still constellations, naming all of them as it knew them. It was an early spring night, and though the crickets weren't to be awake yet, the coast was warm and peaceful. Thus they sang their nightly song every night that the rain dared not come and ruin the tranquility of the night. In the realm the crickets and the wolf lived, it was rare for the night to ever be rainy and the day to ever be clear. The mountains always stormed, sending its cold wind to the town underneath them. The forest by the moors almost always rained, the moors always miraculously dry right next to it.
The wolf kept watching the stars late into the night. It had sat there since sundown, slipping out of the woods once the sun’s blazing rays finally had started to dwindle on the horizon, letting the stars and the moon finally come out of their hiding. It was almost what the humans referred to as two in the morning, but the wolf was wide awake. The waves crashed again, covering up the sound of footprints at first. Whatever it was, it was walking only during the loudest waves. Soon, the wolf noticed the presence of the creature behind it. The flame in the lantern quivered slightly, and the creature saw it. The wolf flicked its ears back, then turned its head. Cautious, it pulled the lantern closer to it. The creature watching him was a human. But not any human. It was that human, the one with the long black hair and dark blue cloak. She reached out her hand and stepped forward, boots swishing across the blades of grass. Her teal eyes reflected the moonlight as she came over to the canine, sitting down next to it. They kept eye contact the entire time, aqua and lavender, both with stars glistening in their reflections. The human sighed and pulled out the carved wooden necklace from her shirt, the crafted waves looking almost just like those underneath them. A small stone sat in the center of the wooden waves, a dark blue just like the ocean and the night sky on the horizon. They sat there a while, both staring out at the world around them.

“Never stops, does it?” The girl said finally. She spoke in a bit of an odd manner. Though humans could understand the animals’ common language if it was spoken from another human, the intonations of such a language was too different to truly understand. However, the wolf understood her words perfectly.
“What do you mean, Sterling?” It replied, barely opening its mouth. The bond between the two was unique, as few knew the human’s true name.
“The world, Hwi. The world never stops.” She looked the canine in the eyes, staring into the blank purple ovals. In addition to the wolf’s exclusive knowledge, the human had a name for the wolf. It meant nothing to anyone else, but to the wolf it meant someone knew and understood its presence.
“Never stops doing what?” Hwi pressed. It tilted its head to the side, intrigued.
Sterling sighed again and shook her head. “Everything.” She yawned, stretching slightly. The wolf nudged her head.
“Why do you keep waking up to see me?” The canine whispered suddenly. The flame in the lantern shook slightly, sending purple shadows across its pelt. Sterling smiled and leaned against him, the long purple fur tickling her face in the small warm breeze.
“Well… Who else will come to see you if not me?” She yawned again, one hand still curled around the ocean necklace. Hwi lowered its muzzle on top of her head, sighing. Its eyes searched the sky as the human fell asleep.
“Only if I were to truly exist would someone else see me…” It closed its eyes. “But everyone except you is too afraid of shadows. Misunderstood shadows…”

(I just realized, thoughts are in italics :/)

Dawn broke from the mountains, sending cascades of pink rose across the sky. It would be time for those in the nearby facility to wake. Hwi lifted its head and nudged Sterling. She opened her eyes sleepily and looked up at it, confused. Her face lit up suddenly when she realized she had fallen asleep. Great! She thought, Now people will be suspicious! They'll know something was up and they'll search for Hwi. She stood up, cloak swirling around her, and ran away.
The wolf watched her closely until she disappeared, and turned back to the ocean for a moment before standing. Head down, it walked back into the brush, lifting the lantern above the dangerous thorny bushes. Different from what it normally did, the purple canine made its way towards the facility, spotting in the first window a cage that held a brown wolf. The wolf was sleeping deeply. Hwi walked farther, spotting Sterling sitting on the edge of the fountain. Standing next to her was a man about her age, who looked nervous as he held a large metal link in his hands. The dragon, Hwi thought. That belonged to the dragon. It tilted its head and focused a pair of blank eyes on the girl’s face. Her eyes were shadowed in concern, and she shook her head. The canine looked closer at the link. It was covered in blood. Dark, red, dragon blood. They killed the dragon? But why? He had good reason to escape! Why? Why would they… Why kill…
“Why?” Hwi barked, not thinking. Both humans turned in his direction, the boy jumping in fear. Sterling shook her head again, saying something though the wolf couldn't tell what. The male human walked slowly over towards Hwi, fright in his eyes. The canine froze. What now? Will he kill me? What is Sterling doing? Why isn't she helping? The girl was looking the other way, head down. The boy kept coming closer as Sterling put her hood up, chain tight in her hands as she walked away. Hwi’s eyes darted around it, not sure what to do. Slowly, it put its head down, curling its tail so that the lantern was by its chest. Ears laid back, it slowly moved away, eyes wide. Please go away… Please, please go away… I don't want to die here… Not yet… The boy was hesitant about going into the woods, and the canine took its chance and ran. The human did nothing to catch it.
“Dumb fox,” he muttered. The canine considered stopping at this remark. I am no fox, sir!

It was well past midnight in Sylyore, but Coldfire was still highly active. He crept down the empty streets of the slumbering town, using the refuge of the shadows to his advantage. The shifter's purple eyes flickered about. He'd stolen a change of clothes from one store and a handful of cash from another, but he wasn't done yet. To him, crime was addicting.

Of course, he hadn't always been like that. But a certain influence turned him for the worse. Back in Teltundra, Coldfire had gotten himself intertwined with a group of not-too-reputable misfits. With his supposed "friends," he learned a variety of skills and took on a new lifestyle. He never told his father what kind of troubles he got into during those two years. If he had, he would have been disowned, if not flogged. Coldfire eventually left that band of criminals, but his love for shifting around in the dark had remained.

Slipping through a dark backstreet, the Tundra dragon found himself at the outskirts of town. Several structures were run-down and abandoned. The majority of windows were either shattered or boarded up, and rubble lay about in heaps like leaves. The only people you could find in the outskirts were mongers and criminals. The perfect place to get a lead on what he was looking for.

I've been pretty good! An event is coming up at my siblings' work place and I've been hired to run a face-painting stand, so I'm pretty excited about it. I'm not a pro at handling kids, but I like to paint. x)

The faintest murmur of conversation brought Coldfire over to an alleyway shadowed by two closely-packed brick buildings. The other side ended with a tall wooden fence. Peeking around the corner, the Tundra dragon counted four suspicious characters in the light of a small fire. Looks-wise, two of them were humans - the other two could hardly pass as humans. The mongrels were closely packed with their backs to the outside, and they seemed to be in deep conversation. What they were talking about, he could only guess.

Coldfire mulled over his next move. His goal was to get a lead on where he could find a portal stone, if not actually get his hands on one. The people before him probably knew a lot of town secrets, including where the best relics might be found. If he could gain their trust, join the conversation, and slip in a few questions, he could have what he wanted and be out of there in minutes. Flexing his fingers, the shifter stepped into the alley.

Ok, so Vriodura is a pretty big place. The main focus are the mountains, harsh peaks known well for the near-constant blizzards that surround them. The two largest ones have a thin rock bridge, the smaller peak leading to the large one where Adain lives. (I may change the sizes since more happens on the smaller one) A deadly path leads down the side of the smaller peak into the Frozen Foot Valley (aka Ice Paw Valley) where Aurora's cave lies in the center of some pine trees. Farther south from the valley, the smaller peak and another small mountain circles somewhat around Raines, a minecraft-like village where mainly animals reside. South of Raines is the Everrain Forest where Haruka and Aylin's home lies, and behind the smaller mountains on the other side are the ruins of Laybourn. Also on the east side of the mountains is a large expanse of forest, a tiny lonely campsite at the foot of the two biggest mountains, and far northeast is another snowy area where Delta and Rune... Um... Lived.... Spoilers.... Uh....
But southwest coming from the Everrain Forest are the Starlit Moors, where it is always dry and small oases form a star shape. A large portion of the east is just forest, and then it drifts out into the coastline. In the far northeast corner is the facility without a name yet. The facility is both good and... Sinister.

Im back. What happened.

It was evening in the town of Raines, the mid-autumn sun casting red-gold rays in the old brick, stone, and wood buildings and homes. Citizens were either preparing for night by finding their precious matches for the oil lamps or setting rough blankets on the roofs to see the stars and fall asleep while the early snow tried to swirl around them. A cool breeze drifted past every small gravel street, though to the townsfolk it seemed more like a wisp of summer still trying to hold on before the mountains' unforgiving winter shut the doors to all natural warmth and sunlight. The clouds would thicken soon, as they were only small bits of fluff in the sky, preparing for night just as the townsfolk were.
A jackelope was calmly strolling the alleyways, dark hood down and cloak floating carelessly behind her back. A small belt was on her waist, with three pouches- a knife, a blowpipe, and a bag of darts. The bag had a seperate pocket in it, where a few coins jingled. The animal was walking on her hind legs, a rare sight with the animals of the realm, but normal for her. Her ears were standing erect, though she did not listen to her surroundings. Dull brown eyes were focused on a somewhat large building infront of her.

I'll post it anyway.

It was evening in the town of Raines, the mid-autumn sun casting red-gold rays in the old brick, stone, and wood buildings and homes. Citizens were either preparing for night by finding their precious matches for the oil lamps or setting rough blankets on the roofs to see the stars and fall asleep while the early snow tried to swirl around them. A cool breeze drifted past every small gravel street, though to the townsfolk it seemed more like a wisp of summer still trying to hold on before the mountains' unforgiving winter shut the doors to all natural warmth and sunlight. There were no howls heard yet, though the clouds would thicken soon, as they were only small bits of fluff in the sky, preparing for night just as the townsfolk were.
A jackelope was calmly strolling the alleyways, dark hood down and cloak floating carelessly behind her back. A small belt was on her waist, with three pouches- a knife, a blowpipe, and a bag of darts. The bag had a seperate pocket in it, where a few coins jingled. The animal was walking on her hind legs, a rare sight with the animals of the realm, but normal for her. Her ears were standing erect, though she did not listen to her surroundings. Dull brown eyes were focused on a somewhat large building infront of her.

A tall and skinny canine wandered along the darkening paths as the night fell. A long, and light coloured coat was wrapped around his body, keeping him warm as the cold wind tried to fly through his thin skin. The canine, tired, looked around, nose twitching as he sniffed around, sniffing for a place to stay the night.

The jackelope noticed the canine walking slowly down the road. //What's a stranger doing here?// She thought, tilting her head slightly. Curious, the animal quietly began to walk behind him, ears forward and whiskers twitching. The sun was almost gone on the horizon, rays being trapped in the leaves of the forest around the town. //Whatever he's doing, he better be done soon. I gotta get to the library, and no stranger is helping.//
