I guess in any case there HAD to be a version of Ren who went off the deep end due to his immortality, and therefore landing himself behind bars.
He's smart, but not too smart... One of his excuses to try and escape involved buying a guard ice cream. XD
*Sigh* I guess no matter what you do to him, he'll always be a Ren.
