I kinda feel you on wanting to play the games in order, but sometimes it's just not possible, or either like in the case of Dragon quest, the first three game's prices are ridiculous!

Oh yeah, and the way old Rpgs work is why I was too scared of buying the first Final fantasy.

reply: no this isnt building up to a toon link vs villager thing. I base it on how much the character has experience fighting outside of ssb... except for the pacman vs pikachu (pikachu would have won in that case) or lucas vs ness. for those ones, i did it based off of gags. I know this is a spoiler, but if ness and villager were to fight, Ness would win. does villager fight outside of smash? hell no! and as for villager vs game and watch... Mr. G&W doesnt fight outside of smash. none of his games has combat. villager doesnt fight either but he cuts down trees soooo... yeah. villager won that one. (even if that fight made no sense) (how the hell did villager win against a giant octopus?)

If he aint the dad then who is?

also, yeah there were like the one with the crocodiles you jump over, or the fire one, but he never fought. he was either avoiding danger or saving people. i dont think spraying bugs really counts as combat. the closest game that i think could be considered a fight was the one with the numbers and hammer.

Dude, I LOVE Chrono trigger. That used to be my favorite game until I played Etrian Odyssey.
Paper mario was awesome too!
(Well, the first two games anyway...)
Funny thing is, I like random encounters, I even like the mindless/tedious grinding and item farming in MOST Rpgs.

Yeah, that was my problem with the later games, I liked the old engine. I really have no idea why they didn't keep it. That's what prevented me from giving the newer games even the slightest glance.

Oh yeah, you ever try out the Mario&Luigi series? It kinda followed in paper mario's footsteps from what I hear.
I have the first game, and it rocks! I was thinking of giving it another playthrough soon.

I like the humor in it.
I will say that it has it's tedious and irritating parts, and I like paper mario's badges a LOT more than ones in Mario&Luigi.
But it was still fun for me.
