Re: Yeah, Mother is a wild ride, alright. A ride I can't get off. I could talk about it forever dude, no lie.
And I may just try Dragon Quest. Although with franchises this old I really hate my 'play the games in order' rule. NES RPGs haven't aged well and are now pretty much an example of what you don't want to do when making an RPG. Case in point, and to loop this around: Mother 1.
Re: The first time I saw the ending to Mother 3 I cried. They really stepped it up from Earthbound, which didn't have much plot.
And I played a bit of FF1 a few years ago and it was okay. I've never finished a Square game, but my favorite is Live A Live, then Chrono Trigger, then FF4. But I'm not so big on RPGs anymore, I hate the a lot of the battle systems and high encounter rates which is why I really like Undertale and the Paper Mario games.

Re:
Thanks. I've never played Dragon Quest, my main inspirations for the enemies I make are Pokemon, Mother 3, and Undertale. But mostly Mother 3.
