Charged helium particles sound interesting. You can say they are fusing whilst being sent forward to a target. It is just an idea.

Re: Ohh, thanks for pointing that out for me! I only made a few quick glimpses at her ref before making mine, and I assumed it was part of her style of drawing fire. I'll be sure to add the stars next time I draw Crimson!
