Gonna explain what I mean about each one in the comments, but yeah! Here's my personal list of golden rules! (putting it under #tutorial bc I hope the comments help?? maybe not idk)
This turned into a rant somewhere during the making of, buuuut eh
Artists make ART It sounds kinda silly, but it's REALLY important to keep in mind. Drawing is made up of two parts; muscle memory and visual library. Developing a visual library is really important (so like, looking at cool art, watching movies), but if you don't draw you won't develop the muscle memory that you need in order to draw. If you want to make a career out of art, you need to draw a shittonnn. And frequently. Your first day working as an artist should not be the first day you draw for 8 hours straight. It's fine if you aren't there yet, but building the endurance is necessary.
You can't draw what you've never seen This goes w/ the muscle memory thing; USE FUCKIN REFERENCE. If you've only been drawing something from memory, you're probably doing it wrong. It's always going to look wrong. The only thing you're doing by not looking at reference is solidifying errors. "But it's a style thing!" Maybe, but maybe not. Remember that stylization comes from altering proportions, not completely ignoring the structures. If the basic structure is off, look up a ref and figure out how it works. THEN exaggerate the proportions. Ego means nothing This one's pretty much USE REFERENCE part 2. There's a ton of people out there that'll refuse to use reference out of pride (aka younger me). So I guess just like, stop being so embarrassed to use reference? You aren't helping yourself. Also, this could refer to daily drawing. YOU ARE ALLOWED TO DRAW BADLY. It doesn't have to be good. Bad drawing help you make good drawing. If you draw a ton, the overall quality increases. If you don't, the quality's pretty hit-or-miss. The very act of drawing helps you build muscle memory, which is one of the two things that make up the act of drawing. In that way, you are IMPROVING.
Copy and steal* There's absolutely no reason to reinvent the wheel. If you like something, pin down precisely what you like and then take it. Bits n pieces. (Taking the entire thing is plagiarism. Don't do that) Y'know that movie Logan? It's fu,ckin Last of Us. Deadpool? He's Don Quixote. Nothing. Is. Original. Regardless, these franchises stand on their own. That's because they are different INTERPRETATIONS of each other. What they've made is their idea of the perfect execution of that idea. Not an original one. SAME THING WITH ART. Look at the artists you admire, break down their work and figure out what you like. Then test it out. Ya like it? Keep it. Nah? Dump it. Mayyyybe you like how someone works w texture; try it out. Maybe you like how they use color; test it. Maybe it's someone's proportions? Cool, test it out. *also known as _*~inspiration~*_
Also just generally if you ever make a tutorial again haIr would be nice! Personally I love your style of hair colouring/shading and I'd love to learn about it qwq

These are very helpful to many artists, both on this site and on many other ones.
Unforunately......I cannot apply any of this into my "hobby" because of a very personal reason.
