It happens to me too, I put lots of effort on a picture, yet only a few people like my drawings. :(

It happens to everyone. We all have ghost followers, many are just inactive people who don't even go on colors anymore. They've moved on from this joint...
Tbh I'm suprised I even get golds on any posts since most of my followers are from 2OI4 and earlier and are inactive.
That being said, I wouldn't rule out ever getting a gold, BUT you shouldn't make getting a gold a focus. It'll just drain any fun out of posting and being around.
I used to get pretty annoyed at me almost /never/ getting an IOO "pow" star on posts and it made me enjoy this place less than I could've.
I'd advise just trying to go places with your own art and have fun with that.
