Lapis Lazuli is a gem who works at a research facility intended for studying the atmosphere and life of other planets for purposes such as terraforming. Because this Lapis' ability of hydrokinesis was very weak she was assigned to work at this research facility although she is not highly regarded or respected. Regardless, she still works hard and while carrying out venial tasks, she also spends much of her time alone watching and observing the many large water tanks in a room within the facility. She isn't at all fond of the institution or herself for that matter, but she endures it all for a certain gem.
Cerussite is a well-liked gem of slightly higher position in the facility, but kindly treats Lapis as an equal. Lapis holds strong admiration towards Cerussite, desperately wanting to be like her and to receive recognition in the same way that she does. The two gems get along, with Cerussite frequently visiting Lapis in the tank room to provide her with some company. At times, she admires the sparkling water tanks and the sea life reserved inside them, telling Lapis how much she would love to live in a world with a beautiful, natural atmosphere like this rather than inside the cold walls of the facility she's known for so long. Cerussite's mention of this sparks ideas in Lapis' mind, influencing her to work to terraform or create a better world for Cerussite, unbeknownst to Cerussite herself. (pls wait v v

More on Lapis and Cerussite's relationship
While Lapis holds Cerussite in high regard, she seems to unknowingly possess strong feelings of jealousy as well. Frequently seeing Cerussite casually living out Lapis' own dreams has left lingering feelings of envy in Lapis. She represses these bitter emotions and continues to support and reassure Cerussite, who for whatever reason seems rather apathetic towards her strong position in the facility and the acceptance and acknowledgement she regularly receives. Lapis doesn't understand. Is she not grateful? Does she not want this?

Lapis doesn't want to dislike Cerussite. She wants to believe that she truly admires her, and that she'd do anything for Cerussite. Even make a better place for her no matter how hard she'll work for it. Lapis wants to be better and this is how she'll do it.
But does she want to be better or does she want to be better than her?

In time, Lapis would continue working on her project alone in her chamber of tanks. She would devise a plan to somehow terraform a world using the life and energy of other planets w/ material suitable to her ideals. But Cerussite would disrupt her and the two would go through an altercation so emotional and intense that ultimately, Lapis would unintentionally cause the water to crack the glass of the tanks, eventually causing the facility to flood. The two would continue to consult one another through the force of the overflowing water, stressing over their true feelings about each other.
Eventually, the flood would be calmed, w/ the water level reaching low above their knees. Lapis, standing in the water would despondently proceed w/ her work, attempting to disregard her strained relationship w/ Cerussite.

This is very well done. I feel her design represents who she is. I can relate to her in so many ways, I truly like a realistic character. She has many flaws, but it developing and becoming something greater or worse.
The back story isn't overused and quite simple. Easy to go along with. Great job Ni :D
