This is how I drew ponies, with often heavy visual/non trace reference from FiM, in 2OI2, at I4-I5 years old.

Any of you who are trying to draw and feel like your stuff's worthless compared to others, that you're never going to improve or that you're atrocious compared to others your age, don't give up on yourself.

You can get better. Draw, draw, draw, do research on things (like anatomy and
/COLOR THEORY/!) use references (don't trace tho),

[continued from description]

if you do some research on something and don't quite understand it fully or maybe even partially, that's okay. Just keep drawing things. If you fail at drawing something, that us IOO*/,, okay, and to be expected. Just keep drawing and don't give up. You can, and will, get better. It'll take time, but you'll get there.

When I first found out about and read up on color theory in 2OI3, I didn't fully grasp it. Hell, I don't think I REALLY started to truly understand it until pretty recently-- that is, about... august last year? Yeah. It's taken me that long to get things down and I'm still working on a myriad of things with my art.

lol that camera icon...
The ref I used for this was me eying paused videos of episodes of FiM on youtube. (I /have always/ used eye reference instead of other kinds of ref) I never imported a bg pic to copy.

RIP old pre-update pictures that automatically have a reference icon slapped on em.

Also, to further help some of you feel better about yourselves and art, *maybe,* look in these tags: #accesstag - #accesstag2

Enjoy (or not) your trip through the hell that is my old, immature, and plain terrible posts.

Tracing actually greatly improved my skills when I first started. Then again I also overlayed the structure when I did it. Perhaps that helped...

i remember the time when i knew about color theory, i tried to applied it but the shading was either too pale or too colorful so i just ignored it

then recently (maybe november?) last year, i refreshed my color theory knowledge and helped me get into atmospheric ambience in paintings

fun times

Just from personal experience, about a year ago I got an art book for my little pony. It really helped get the mlp fim style down. I had access to refs for backgrounds, expressions, and just ponies in general. It gave me a lot of good stuff to work with and my ponies have improved quite a bit.
