Here's a bit of Fade's backstory.

Fade is #NaturaTale's Gaster, but at the same time he's not.
Fade is NT Gaster's soul and emotions given it's own form. And IK souls make up an entire monster in UT, but this case is a bit different.
This is a "body separated from spirit" type of moments. Fade doesn't have a solid body, which is WHY he can make himself fade.

His real body (aka: Gaster) carries his magic & memories, which is also why he has ammesia and can't use his abilities, making him unidentifiable as a monster or a human being.
NT Gaster's powers/magic (since NT monsters are gods) was the ability to manipulate space & time, not in a way where he could see/go to other AU's, but to do things such as freeze time if he was in a rush to work, for lack of a better example.
However, due to how often he abused his powers, an accident involving Nate caused him to fall into his world's core, where he tried to go back in time to prevent his fall.
Due to the fact he was in the Void while attempting to do so however, he split into two halves.
This is why Fade is actually seen in NT, being half of Gaster that managed to go back to NT, but not waking up till NT's events.
