You're great at quickly building up the details and colours. I'm guessing you spend more time observing than actually drawing. I think I do the reverse
Im guessing that you already new that I'd love this when you posted it, which I do :)) I want it in a frame. I liked the one you did previously on the ds but this one for me is so much better, love the dramatic atmosphere. I can't get it to replay? Maybe its because it's painted on Vita. ( I'm hoping your old faithful has not finally given up) . My eyes were traveling around in this painting for ages, from my memories it looks pretty accurate and shows you know her well, yes I must admit she is very beautiful, almost as beautiful as the one behind you :)
Thanks to you all for your warm responses. I've had a really cold and miserable day at work, so reading your comments has really turned this day around for me. :)
M.Collins: I do spend a lot of time observing, but not so much when I paint, if that makes any sense. I may spend a lot of time soaking up a location, or space, or view, but when I get down to painting - at least as far as the DS is concerned - I tend to just go for it and trust my bigger brush strokes at the beginning, and then play with what came out. I would say it's probably not the most productive way of working in many ways, but sketching on my DS over the years has given me some measure of confidence in trusting my subconscious (and hand) to make a lot of the choices for me. The time spent just soaking up my surroundings (sights, sounds, smells etc... ) is possibly half of what I rely on because, like I said, when I do sit down to paint; it's all *scribble, scribble, scribble... keep the hand moving* haha. I can't help it.
Looking forward to your return to landscape uploads. Maybe you could share some thoughts about how you work? I'm very interested in this kind of stuff.
Gaz: Ah, yes. That which is over my shoulder from this particular view shall not be mentioned, haha. Well, I've got a painting to upload that includes your mistress, so don't be too put out. ;) As far as playback is concerned, see below. No No Si Si & Otaner: Apologies for the playback issues. It works fine (for the most part) from a web browser, although there is the issue of the playback not acknowledge flipping the canvas in terms of brush strokes. This is due to the fact I'm using an early beta version of the PSVita build of Colors! (which Jens sent me to play around with) on a tablet. I don't own a Vita.
Whenever I go out painting I become fixated on my screen and I forget to look up. I should maybe take a good half hour before I start drawing to just observe the scene.
I wouldn't force yourself. Just do what feels right for you. You can get a very good feel for a scene by just talking a minute or two to observe and discover what you are drawn towards, and what objectives you mat have.
