I think I can understand the position you're in. If I were you, I'd try to feel it out in my heart. Ask God and try to feel out what feels best to your heart.
Personally, you don't have to do this, it's your life, but I think that, if you do really like him, then you should at least give it a go. One way or the other, you'll feel better that you did and you won't regret not doing it.
