It could be because of age. I've had it for quite some time and have treated it very delicately. Although it still works, I put the emphasis on "works".
You have to wiggle the wire so that it points a certain direction, prop the psvita at a very, VERY specific angle and cross your fingers and pray that the bastard charger works one more time.

In short, it just happens. I know that you also own a psvita, so I ask you this:

How long have you had your psvita for?
