I guess by staff breaking they mean that the magic from the staff broke? As for the book... The bindings fragile?

I'd imagine with the staff, the healing power comes from the orb. After it exerts itself enough it begins to crack due to the amount of energy it is outputting/losing. Likewise with the book, the more magic it becomes infused with after casting spell after spell, it would eventually burn itself up or something. Idk I just had that in my head and I wanted to try and go with it xD
Anyways this is a funny comic lol, I love how everything breaks as if it were bought from the Dollar Store. Desparate war times call for desparate measures I guess XD
